Easy Peasy

I feel TurboTax is improved over last year. Maybe it was the way the questions were asked. Accually was more relaxed doing taxes this year than last.
What's great about it: Very smooth flow of the questions.
What's not so great: Didn't have any this year.

You do not need to understand anything about taxes to use Turbo Tax. It guides you through step by step without any confusion. This is my fifth year and plan to continue using Turbo Tax.

Love the product, but I never have any confidence it handles the Maine State Retirement System or carry over of Maine W2 information correctly to the state return.
What's great about it: Does well on federal tax returns
What's not so great: Sometimes has errors on state returns

Turbo Taxes 2014

We have used Turbo Tax software for at least the last 5 years. It is always fast & easy and we have has no problems with our returns.
What's great about it: Very easy to use; instrucvtions seem to be helpful; time will tell how good it is if I don't get auditted.
What's not so great: Haven't really got one.

I still Hate doing taxes

Just as when you go to a tax preparer, you should get your papers in order and think about the deductions. Don't wait until the last minute (as I usually do) because undoubtedly your computer will need updating, a program won't work or you'll need to investigate something or other! I resent paying any money for preparation, but this is easily the least expensive way for someone who is not an accountant. And, just like EZPass, not having to write a check is more palatable.
What's great about it: I don't have to make an appointment or deal with some preparer who is determined to tax my spouse's disability
What's not so great: Still takes hours to get it all together!

What's great about it: TurboTax automatically transfers data from last year's return, and I can pick income and deductions.
What's not so great: Could be better at handling 1099-R RMDs for deceased relatives. Why isn't a complete distribution a valid RMD?
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
