Code quality bites

It took me almost 12 hours to simply efile my fed and state returns.
Problem is due to too many 'try this and that' things from the online help crew.
Ended up wityh an install that woukd not process the state.

MY FIX... install TT on another machine... copy exiting tax file to new machine and open it. It creates the state file directory SS14
copy this directory to corrupted machine.
retstart TT.
problem gone

What's great about it: asked the right questions
What's not so great: XP support junk, cant move data file well, cant fix corrupted install

Annoyed at updates to TurboTax this year

I have used TurboTax to do my taxes for over 12 years. Very annoyed at updates to TurboTax this year
First reason.
Every single time I launch the desktop app it says that there is an update for Turbo Tax. Does not give me the option of updating later. So I have to sit and wait for a 100 mb update to download and install. This must have happened to me 10 times this year while doing taxes. What a waste of time. How could there possibly be so many updates so late in the tax year? (I do my taxes in March and April). I actually think TurboTax is downloading my personal data that I have entered since I last opened the app. Since I always file by printing an mailing not e-filing.

Second reason.
You can no longer encrypt the TurboTax file on your computer unless you create an Intuit online account. What kind of sense does this make? So I need to create an online account to encrypt a local file on my computer. Seems like more of a security risk than leaving the file unencrypted. For the last 12 years I have been able to encrypt the file without doing this. Why the change?

What's not so great: Constant updates required. Not able to encrypt local file with online account

I've always trusted TurboTax. Never had any issues and when things got more complicated I was able to understand what was needed for the forms. Simple, straight forward and gets done without any concerns.
What's great about it: Always asking the right questions and provides the information to understand what they're looking for and why.
What's not so great: Sometimes get lost in the menus. Especially when changes are made year over year. But still easy to use!
Pros: I had a baby, My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Taxes Done

I bought TurboTax Basic. Nothing on the description that I bought stated that I could not Itemize my deductions until I got way into my TurboTax Basic and a box popped up stating that if I wanted to itemize my deductions I needed to purchased TurboTax Deluxe. I have been using TurboTax Basic for years and this is the first time that I have not been able to itemize my deductions. I purchased the TurboTax Deluxe and continued my taxes. Other than this problem, TurboTax for my taxes is excellent.
What's great about it: Excellent

I wouldn't do my taxes any other way. And I'll be sure to tell everyone and explain how easy it is with the assist of such knowledgeable employees.
