Good program
on April 11, 2015

I have been using the TurboTax program since about 2008. I like that I don't have to handwrite returns and mail them as it is very labor-intensive and the mail is not delivered as quickly as it used to be. I like that there are a lot of opportunities provided for deductible items but it can also take some time to go through all of the possible applicable subjects. Overall I gave the program 3 stars, only because of the time it still takes to enter info on a computer and the fact you have to pay to e-file for state returns, otherwise I would have given it 4 to 5 stars.
What's great about it: Detailed entries and a lot of options for deductible items
What's not so great: Time-Consuming to make sure you covered all subjects

Refunds going up in costs.

The TurboTax is easy to use and uses the same format as past years but the price that is being charged for first the software and then again for the State then the charge for e-filing. I believe almost everyone needs to file a State return so why charging an extra charge.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Extra cost here and there
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

A bit Frustrated this year
on April 11, 2015

I've been using TurboTax Basic for over 10 years. My taxes aren't complex, but I do need to file 1040. I've always skipped the State version, as my state has a relatively simple form, and not worth paying extra for software to do it.
Now for this year.
The communication from Intuit, and the box documentation indicated I couldn't use "Basic" this year, and must buy a more expensive version, which includes features I didn't need or want (deduction finder, State). Not Happy.
I tried to look online - to see exactly what version I needed to purchase based on my tax situation, and couldn't find specifics. Whatever. I picked a version and took it home.
So, come time to do my taxes, and I hit a point where Turbo Tax insisted I needed to purchase another upgrade, based on my tax situation. I refused.
So here is my big PRO for this software.
If you KNOW what you need to enter on whatever form, TurboTax WILL let you do it. You don't have to buy an Upgrade. That being said, If you Don't know, you can buy the upgrade and they will walk you through it. I have no problem with them getting paid to help folks work through knarly tax forms. However, I didn't want to pay for something I could do myself.
I'm happy with that.
So, Intuit should know they need to work on their customer service/communication/How do they structure their versions & prices. We'll see what they come up with next year. I'm still planning on buying it.
What's great about it: Was still able to do what I needed to
What's not so great: Package documentation wasn't clear

2014 TurboTax Pros and Cons
on April 11, 2015
Posted by: AM7056
I have used TurboTax software for approx. 25 years. It does allow accurate electronic income tax calculations and submissions each year, while reducing manual entries of previous year tax information. The cons related to this software is the availability of help within the software to answer tax entry questions, so you are forced to reference various federal or state government tax sites to properly fill-out some parts of the tax forms or search the TurboTax Community website for tax form help. Note this concern appears to be getting worst each year. Once upon a time, the software included extensive tax form help when you purchased the Premier TurboTax CD, which I miss, now.
What's great about it: Accurate income tax filing software, references last year info so you do not have to re-enter all previous info.
What's not so great: Provides limited software help on federal, state, or city tax forms, so government websites must be reference.

What's not so great: I wasn't able to remove a Schedule C from a previous return even though it had lapsed and didn't pertain
