NYC Employees Pension entry

The program is easy to use, It can use an update when it comes to NYC retirees pension entry. In the state file they do not have the appropriate entry to not levy taxes against your pension unless your in law enforcement or education (teacher). all other nyc employees have to lie (pick an option that they are not) to trick the program
What's great about it: Ease of use
What's not so great: You need to update the NYC Govt employee tax rate. all NYC Employees do not pay State & City tax on their pensions,

Cheap, Fast, Accurate, Procrastinator Friendly

Dad normally uses a local tax prep service that's free for seniors. However, free comes with a price, which in this case was that the servicers were overwhelmed and were unable to get to my dad. Other "for profit" tax prep services were way out of budget and I decided to give TurboTax a try because it was inexpensive and at the end, if I felt confused or if I felt that things were inaccurate, I could simply not use the results from TurboTax and visit a professional. TurboTax was very easy to use, and I am confident that it was very accurate; however, all of my dad's income was in the form of 1099's # pensions and social security # which was a very simple to understand. The TurboTax software made things extremely easy by even identifying which box contained the information it required. I'm unsure how smooth the process would have been should things have been more complicated, such as self employed. Your mileage may vary, but mine was great.

the worst

been using this since it came out but will never use it again nice to spend your whole day looking up forms not included with this edition. deductions and homeowners. just really bad.
What's great about it: after hours of getting the forms left of this edition it does your taxs but hours later.
What's not so great: why are all the forms not there

What's great about it: I am using Forms only. It's very easy and it does not let you make math errors.
What's not so great: You make printing too difficult. It's too hard to print only what you want.

Simplifying my life

If you have to do taxes, this is the way to do it. Every year I get better at knowing how to keep supporting documentation, but as my life evolves so does what is required for me to be able to do my taxes. TurboTax makes the dreaded task less dreadful.
What's great about it: Ease of use of the software, step-by-step guide with info at the time you need it
What's not so great: Get tangled in the language of the tax code itself. US taxes are not made for average common man to understand & apply.

Good News

At one point it said, will ask for Form 5498 later. It didn't. It asked by title. Had to go back and hunt for where it went.
What's great about it: Covers evrything
What's not so great: Could ask more for Form numbers.
