Taxes done for Dummies

Having used Turbo Tax a number of years ago and then going to a Tax Accountant for a few years I came "HOME" the past 2 years. While I paid about 8 times the cost of Turbo Tax for the "expert" I felt like I was doing 80% of his work for him and coming up with the same answer.
Would like summary before starting to assist in gathering all information prior to starting. Would help simplify the input and make sure you have everything collected.

What's great about it: The use of Turbo Tax for doing a complicated job makes a BAD job as easy as possible.
What's not so great: Not a CON-but a suggestion. Would be nice to have forms to fill out and make sure you have all of the necessary forms.

I've used Turbo Tax for years and find it very easy to navigate the program. The tips provide helpful information as I am trying to determine deductions and expenses. Access to live help is instantaneous.
What's great about it: Easy to navigate; helpful information via tips.
What's not so great: The program started over on one occasion; there is not a tab to "Save" which is somewhat confusting

Education I Needed

Always had a Tax Company do my returns for forty years until I retired. I decided to try TurboTax after I was told that it was easy and less money to complete a return. It turned out that it was both easy and less money to use, but best reward was I learned more in the last four years then I ever did in forty using other means. Thanks, never two old to learn.

NYS returns forms are still not swift and certain and I had to review it several times before T-tax got it right. However, T-tax has improved over the years, They have changed from "Not getting it right" to "Need to be improved" . This has been a four year process and response time was lagging..
What's great about it: Have been with T-taxfor several years and am familiar with it.
What's not so great: Find it expensive and a customer has to watch for price variations.. Regarding NYS returns there has been a history of

What's great about it: Every instruction is very clear
What's not so great: Only problem with printing the form which is not working and just repeating itself.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
