Great Product

I've tried other products, but I like the ease of use with Turbo Tax. I like that it shows previous years information so that I can check to see if I forgot something. Like the 'learn more' button to see what a particular topic is about and some of the rules regarding use of this deduction.
What's great about it: Very easy to use. Asks the right questions to get things done right.

Wish I'd paid my accountant instead

Loaded software on brand new laptop only to find out it apparently doesn't work with Windows 8. Had to dig old laptop out otherwise updates wouldn't load. There wasn't a lot of detail or instruction provided. We had to make educated guesses sometimes what to claim where. Had to pay extra to file in a second state, then had to pay extra again to e-file in both states. Finally sent everything in only to have everything rejected. Details from Turbo Tax were vague, and the "Help me fix" option did nothing of the sort. Had to spend hours on the phone with the IRS only to end up mailing in our returns. Of course, no money returned from Turbo Tax even though we were not able to e-file. In the end...several days of headache and cost almost as much as using our accountant. Will NEVER do this again!
What's great about it: Completed in the comfort of my own home
What's not so great: Instructions and "help" are vague

TurboTax too insecure to use

Last year, I discovered that TurboTax for Mac was attempting to send my tax data over the internet to Intuit at Print time or even Saving to PDF. This is completely unacceptable as I do not want my tax data to leave my computer. This is why I bought the Mac CD version and didn't use some online version.
However at Print time, it attempted to contact the Intuit "Secure Print Service" to print my returns. Hey: you know what is more secure than that? NOT sending my tax data over the internet.
So last year, I configured my computer not to allow connections to the secure print service and the dialog popped up saying "Can't contact secure print service. Print Locally?" at which point I said OK and it printed locally as it should.
This year I did the same thing, but when it came time to print, it said "Can't contact print service. Check your internet connection and try again later." There was no option to print locally.
This is unacceptable, insecure, and I refuse to use it. I will not be buying TurboTax next year after being a customer for decades.
What's not so great: Unacceptable to send personal tax data over internet on Mac when printing
