turbo tax is a godsend

Last year I didn't file because I made a mistake and panicked. This year I just filed so I have the confidence to go into last year's return, try to correct the error, then file.
What's great about it: easy
What's not so great: when i make a mistake, i don.t understand what to do next
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Friend friendly

I use Turbo Tax every year with the help of a friend. She helps me get my documentation together. Then we follow the steps. It helps me understand what I need to be saving all year long.
What's great about it: Easy to follow steps
What's not so great: Stock sales a bit difficult to enter

POOR ON HOME OFFICE

aside from Home Office - was not happy to get a response on the NJ state that said it didn't know if something needed to be entered as taxable income or not - something that is not unusal in my opinion.
Quality of Turbo tax has declined over the past couple years
What's great about it: DEDUCTIONS - EXCEPT HOME OFFICE
What's not so great: HOME OFFICE - VERY DIFFICULT TO COMPUTE

Oops, TurboTax did it again!

I have trusted TurboTax for years and I will forever use them. People spend hundreds of dollars on a "Tax Preparer" to put all this information into a computer and use software like TurboTax to process their taxes. TurboTax is extremely detailed and walks you through federal and state returns. The different programs, one for every tax situation you might be facing, range from basic college student to home and business owner. You have unlimited options and coverage with TurboTax.
What's great about it: Easy, Thorough and Low Cost!
What's not so great: N/A

It's a no-brainer

The first year I tried Turbo Tax I also paid to have my taxes done. Using all the same information, I got the same results and could have paid three-quarters less money if I'd used Turbo Tax alone. It took one day instead of two weeks ta boot.
I've been using Turbo Tax ever since. It's a no-brainer.

Not as happy this time

An unfortunate glitch in the system on the state refund side caused my interest income to be entered twice, therefore reducing my tax refund by $38. No, it's not a lot of money but it's quite annoying that there was such a glitch. I even thought I fixed it and got to the end to transmit/file and it went in and came out with a different refund amount:-( Pretty unhappy...
What's great about it: Easy, all my information from prior years made it very simple
What's not so great: A glitch in the system caused my refund to go in for $50 less than it should have! I could not figure out a way to fix i

Beside the hold time, the advisers were nice and knowledgeable. I will be using them again in the future.
What's great about it: The tax advice people were great
What's not so great: hold time was over 30 mins
