Turbo Tax

I've been doing my own taxes for over 40 years and have been using Turbo Tax for about 20. The early programs were more difficult to navigate and I have appreciated the evolution to the current product. Doing taxes by hand involves form by form where as Turbo Tax may ask interview questions in different order. I would often wonder "are they ever going to ask me about x?" You still have to have some knowledge of deductions. You are not going to be asked if you have been driving your own car while on a project for charity. There are a few suggestions on major, common deductions but certainly inconclusive.
Great features include: the ease of use, the ability to research a topic through an IRS link; transferring information from the previous year; and the ULTIMATE time saver "It's Deductable", for clothing and item donations.
Side by side comparisons from the previous year (assuming this is at least your second time using TurboTax) helps to evaluate trends and spot things you may have missed.
One improvement would be more specific comparisons to the last year and detail the discrepancies in the final review. Example: my wife claims the $250 out-of-pocket teacher's exemption. This year I almost forgot and don't remember being asked in the interview. IRA deductions were not asked as well. I don't remember a question about auto downloading W-2 information (maybe doing taxes during the NCAA tournament is a mistake) There is a danger from going in and out of interview mode.
Special offers for refunds have been fun. I have used the gift card rebates on Lowes, and this year, Amazon for a 10%premium.
State E-File is a little pricey. I print and send mine. I'm sure there are calculated reasons for the E-file price break, but I'm under the threshold.
Pre-ordering is what I have done for years, primarily for the convenience. I don't believe there is a cost discount. I have enough free Quicken discs to make something artsy, but never use them. I remember more incentive options in years past; I think I received "Family Lawyer" one year.
All said, I will use Turbo Tax another year and I trust its reliability.

This is the first time we used turbo tax and we found the experience to be pleasant. The software walked us through all of our deductions and guided us each step of the way. It took us less that 2 hours to complete, I will use it again.
What's great about it: it was easy and walked us through the entire process

2014 turbo tax

I've used Turbo tax for many years. This is the first year that I have had multiple problems with it. I file my returns and my mother's returns. It got them confused somehow on line and locked up my computer so bad I had to power off to get it to close. I have always trusted this software but I am not certain now if I will continue to use it. I don't like to see this type of major problem with my tax returns.
What's great about it: quick to fill out forms
What's not so great: confused multiple returns

Can't beat the convenience of this product and the assurance that the fed and state forms are accurate.
What's great about it: Pulls info automatically from last year's return and from this year's W-2 forms
What's not so great: This convenience is a reminder that there is no privacy in the U.S.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

What's not so great: Wastes too much paper. Should give me the option to avoid writing things I do not need, like reprinting the states tax

30th year of using Turbo Tax

I was not able to install TT2014 on my windows 8 laptop. I tried the help topics in customer support, then called. Wow, was I shocked. I spoke to a person on a Saturday about 6pm eastern. Helpful, knowledgeable, set me up with alternatives. She was even willing to sit on the phone for my 30 min download, fortunately it did not take that long. She gave me two alternatives if her suggestion did not work and a different phone number. Excellent customer service !!!!!!! I was able to load it and used TT2014 on my windows 8 laptop. She also guided me on how to make my files available if my computer crashed. Thank you !!!!
What's great about it: clear, easy to understand,
What's not so great: installation was a problem
