2014 Turbo Tax

Turbo tax was easy to use. The problem was I had a 6 digit PIN number assigned by the IRS in their CP01A letter.The current system would not accept the 6 digit number from the IRS and because of that,when I used the 5 digit number obtained through Turbo Tax,the IRS rejected my return and I had to resort to the US mail to send in my forms. This glitch obviously needs to be corrected.
Otherwise,the Turbo tax system was easy to use and explained everything to my satisfaction. But when I called customer assistance regarding the PIN number situation,they were not able to help but said they would forward my concern to the "powers to be."
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Won't accept IRS PIN number of 6 characters

College Tuition

Doing tax return for my college student child who I claim as a dependent. Why does TurboTax bother to ask if the child had college related expenses when the child is not elgible for any credits because he/she is claimed as a dependent on someone else's return? Its a waste of time putting in the 1098-T and other information.

Overall excellent product very easy to use. Low the audit risk rating-very helpful.
What's great about it: great explanations
What's not so great: wording on personal property taxes was a bit confusing
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Battle Scars

I have used Turbotax for my federal and state taxes for years. Each year seemed to be easier than the previous year, but NOT this year. Some of the instructions and questions this year were quite vague. I found myself repeatedly going back to take different logic branches until I got the desired result by brute force, and that was very frustrating!
After e-filing my federal tax forms, the last straw was the systems refusal to let me e-file my state tax forms a few days later. So, I have decided once again to submit my state tax forms by mail.
What's great about it: Having used Turbotax for years, the process went fairly smoothly.
What's not so great: Directions in various parts were vague and required brute force to get to the end point.
