Taxes R Easy
on March 24, 2015
Posted by: TBTXUser801
Been a TT user for many years, every year either my taxes are getting easier or the product is improving with age. Once you have all your documents together, it takes a few hours (like 2) to complete and review. I'll remain a long term user,
What's great about it: I find it easy to use.
What's not so great: None found yet

I had great difficulty getting this on my Windows 8. Kept trying (at least 10 times) before it downloaded. Once downloaded and completed return I had trouble emailing. I kept getting an error message saying I wasn't connected to net and I verified that I was. I also had difficulty with the updater. I have never had these issues before. Easy to blame on Windows 8 but I feel like Intuit should have had these incompatability issues figured out. What should have taken me no more than 2 hours took the better part of 2 days.
What's great about it: easy to use
What's not so great: VERY hard to install on Windows 8
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

TT lacks savvy - caused me to have to paper file
on March 24, 2015

Had to mail my 2014 return because TT lacks the savvy of other tax filing software like TaxACT. I received a Foreign pension income that was fully taxable by IRS so it could have been placed directly into Form 1040 line 16b (where IRS wants it placed - and the way TaxACT does it without completing form 1099-R or form 4852 because there is no Payer's ID number for foreign payers#, however TT makes you complete form 1099-R which cannot be e-filed without a Payer's ID number #which is not available for foreign payers, and Form 4852) which the IRS does not allow to be e-filed). If you override the 1040 form line 16b to enter the pension income and delete forms 1099-R and 4852 then TurboTax will not allow e-filing because of the override!
What's great about it: Does a good job of interview to collect the data for completing the forms
What's not so great: No way to deal with reporting foreign pension income & still e-file

A Breeze

We don't have a difficult tax situation, but we do itemize deductions. This is a simple, care-free way to file your taxes. A little work on your part first and TT guides you through to get a thorough review of your situation. The "It's deductible is worth the time to assess your non-cash contributions. With TT's organized approach, you feel confident of the results.
What's great about it: Very easy to follow
What's not so great: "It's deductible" clothing section descriptions needs updating

Review by a long time user

I have used TurboTax for several years. Every year it gets better. I have been retired since 2006, so my filing conditions remain the same from year to year. Income and deductions don't vary too much. Every year it takes me less and less time to prepare my taxes and I interpret that as the software getting better and easier to use. Its definitely not because I am getting younger and smarter.
What's great about it: Easy of navigating; complete explanations; friendly
What's not so great: none I detected
