Retired teachers in Massachusetts do not pay state taxes.
This should be included when automatic calculations are made.

What's not so great: need to better update state

2014 tax return review
on March 20, 2015
Posted by: MarvinM
Went through and had to stop in the middle
Started again and had to step through everything again.
When reviewing the forms found a $44 penalty (assuming for a large payment) but when it happened there was nothing stating it was going to be there.
SS taxes where not explained at all - looked it up online.
Set up quarterly payments to eliminate the large payment for 2015 but there will not be one because there are no lump sum payments in 2015, no way to get around this tha I can see. So I am ignoring them.
What's great about it: easy to go through
What's not so great: not enough explanation of what and why things are happening
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Needs better importing from Quicken
on March 20, 2015

I think Intuit's TurboTax and Quicken teams need to sit down and make sure all the categories and forms used between the two applications are completely matched up to each other. By and large all the imported files from Quicken perfectly fall into their correct TurboTax forms and it's a great way to check-and-balance if the 1099 or W2 forms I get from my banks and employers are more or less correct. However, things like my medical expenses, that I carefully tagged during 2014, were haphazardly entered into TurboTax, and all my Quicken categories went missing. I find it very useful that I have both applications, but there are still hiccups Intuit needs to fix, especially if their intention is to make all their applications cloud-based.
What's great about it: Importing Quicken files into TurboTax
What's not so great: TurboTax gets confused by imported Quicken files
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
