Remote too small for the elderly!

I purchased this unit for my parents who are elderly and it cools sufficiently but the fan makes a lot more noise that the reviews indicated. The remote is very small and hard for my mother to read and work. The light lettering. On the unit and the remote is hard to see. The unit is in the wall so my mother used the remote mostly. I would not recommend this unit for elderly persons because of the noise level and the remote issue. It cools living room and dining room but is not adequate for the bedrooms of this 1200 sq ft home.

Cools VERY well, but a bit too loud

As said, this unit COOLS our 800 sq ft main living area (minus two small bedrooms and a hall which are cooled by smaller individual room air conditioners as needed). It's one problem is that the compressor noise is louder than previous units we have had over the past 25 years. It is mounted thru a concrete block wall in an opening cut out smaller inside and flaring open even further outside to allow good airflow for the outer part of the unit. First I tried moving it around a wee bit, to no avail, then I used two layers of loose weave foam to cut down the sound from outside and that did help. The cabinet does not seem to be vibrating much.

We installed this to replace our older unit. Keep in mind that this comes with the sleave. Pretty easy to install one you rough out the opening which took me several hours. Once in it was pretty easy but just know it has to pitch down slightly so your cut out should be a bit larger from top to bottom.
It should also be noted that the baffles where the air comes out does not pivot down but it will in the up positions. Just know if you are installing this in the wall the air will not immediately drop down but this unit really pushes out the air and can cool a few rooms comsidering they are not blocked off.
Remote is a nice feature and feels very sturdy but small.
Best option if you cannot afford central air. Keep in mind that if this a new install you will have to rip out some sheet rock or plaster only to have to replace some of it. You have to frame in the area with 2x4's to ensure it can hold the weight. It's a bigger job than one might think so get a quote before you buy the unit and lastly it's very very heavy...two man to lift heavy..

Was working great for 3 years now have always kept felter changed and followed all direction! But now it has stopped blowing cold air! I have wiped down everything with damp cloth like the manuel says and dryed with no improvement should it be taken apart a cleaned not specified what to do next in guide! I love the ac unit and dont want to lose it someone please help! ASAP!

Keeps rooms cool and runs quietly

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Would get a five star rating if the expensive to replace remote didn't fail after just two days. Otherwise, the low energy use for a large unit is a strong plus. And it is remarkably quiet with a strong output.
