The HP ink clearly outperforms the alternative off-brands, but the costs continue to go up and up. A set of ink cartridges now costs as much as I paid for the printer.
I replaced all three of the ink cartridges and still my HP printer says the are incompatible. I am now looking for a new printer and it will not be a HP printer

Hi Brian,
I am sorry that this happened to you, but it is unlikely to have been the fault of all the cartridges themselves. What is more likely is that the contacts inside the printer got dirty and need to be cleaned.
That is pretty easy to do. You use some lint-free material to wipe off the copper-colored contacts that match up with the contacts on the cartridge (wouldn't hurt to clean the contacts on the cartridges too and examine them for damage).
If that doesn't help, perhaps the cartridges were damaged or defective and you can return them. The return and exchange process is covered, step-by-step, at: store.hp.com/us/en/cv/returnsandexchanges
I haven't installed them yet but I hope they are in working condition. One would think the bubble wrap package would protect the cartridges (three). When I opened the package, two of the three ink cartridges cardboard covers were crushed but the cartridges seem to be usable. I'll soon find out when I install them.
Can't use it because, when we installed the cartridges, we got a message that we have never gotten before: that the yellow cartridge is missing or damaged. Guessing its possible the problem is the printer, but no way of knowing. Never have had this problem before with HP cartridges. Also puzzled by fact that the red cartridge does not have a label on it as do all other cartridges .
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hello,
That you didn't want to recommend this set highly is understandable. However, I hope to help you get this fixed.
It sounds like the yellow cartridge is defective, but perhaps the contacts got smudged during installation. You can clean the copper contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer (where they line up with the ones on the cartridge) with lint-free material and see if that lets the printer connect properly with the cartridge.
If nothing helps, you can return it for refund or exchange.
