The black ink I got must be defective. It prints one page, then the next page does not print black color. I cleaned the print head several times, but that did not fix the problem. This is the first time I experienced this kind of difficulty with HP ink.

Hi,
I'm sorry that your cartridge appears to have been used up too quickly. Unless those were mostly high-density pages, it does seem you should have been able to print more!
Here are a few facts about ink usage that might help:
- A high-density print (like a photo) will use the ink more quickly than a text-only document, especially if the paper is highly absorbent and the environment is dry.
- Using the draft and black only settings on your printer can help save on ink.
- Shutting the printer down between uses can result in some savings. However, always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That will let the printer 'park' so that the cartridges are protected from excess drying.

I intentionally purchased HP ink to put in my HP printer and could not get it to print in color with these new cartridges. The black cartridge printed fine. I took out and reinstalled, I trouble-shooted and still no color. I've had this printer for approx. eight years and never had a problem when replacing the cartridges.
