Usually a black XL cartridge lasts for 3-6 months and hundreds of pages. This one did not and ran out long before the color cartridges. The colors, in fact, are still printing. I did buy a black XL a couple of weeks ago. If the latest doesn't perform to specs, the printer gets recycled. Note: Delivery service is great and as promised.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I think paper printing is very sharp. The pictures smear that I copy on HP photograph paper, however.
