We bought this a few weeks ago and the mist comes out very strong. Completely fogs up our house. Cannot run it continuously. The fog is too thick. Don't really care for it.

Product appearance and performance are good but fact that fan doesn't turn off when unit is out of water is a major drawback! Impossible to tell from across the room that unit needs refilling.

I am amazed at some of the negative reviews that I read. Anyone who has ever owned a humidifier knows that it should be put on a flat surface, not on carpet or on a piece of furniture. I just bought the most recent model, and I have to say it is the best humidifier I have ever bought. I had bought from other competitors but due to the fact that the original companies were sold to others, the products are not the same. I bought this because Vornado is an American company and am familiar with the commitment of Vornado. I love the fact that the Vornado Vortex Action makes all the difference in the world. I have allergies and my apartment has hard wood floors and plaster walls that date back to the early 1900s. I even see a difference in my cats.They are breathing better- there is less dust and fuzz balls. It also treats my antique furniture and moistures the wood. Would highly recommend this product - easy to maintain and it lives up to what it is supposed to do! For anyone who has previously owned any kind of humidifier, the instructions are clear and as long as you follow them and treat the unit gently, you will have it for a long time. The company would not guarantee a 5 year warranty if they didn't think it would last. I have several Vornado products and they are the best!

Nice unit, holds water for 24 hours B4 refill

The water filter to me is a waste - not needed, nor do I use it. I clean the unit with Lime-a-way, which dissolves ALL minerals left over from use. Future water bottles should have an opening for refilling at the TOP, while the bottle is still sitting in the machine - because with two heavy gallons of water, having to flip it over, then line it up, and start the unit up is a hassel. Talk to your design & engineering dept and tell them to use some common sense next time. Other than that, I like it.
Pros: Adjustable, Compact, Durable, Good Design, Good Power Output, Quiet, Stable Base

I purchased the Ultra Sonic Humidifier in October because our older models of the vortex were large a combersome not to mention quite loud when the water ran out. With the ultra sonic version I like that I don't have the paper filters to replace and I especially like that it has both cool and warm mist settings which were recommended by my kids pediatrician. This helped when my son had the croup real bad the cool setting helped him breathe easier at night. Since we took the one out of our room for him over a week ago, I didn't realize just how much the extra moister in the air helped my husband and I sleep at night. During that week we both woke up with dry mouth and nose. So today I ran out and bought a second one. We will buy a third one for my daughters room after the holidays. Love the sleek design it takes up a third less room than the previous model we owned. If you don't have one get one!

Usability of Design for Refill

This message is for the folks at Vornado. This is a great working humidifier. Quiet! Looks nice. My issue is the Consumer USABILITY - there is not a rating for this. The packaging and design engineering overlooked this. (Not just this unit). The refill opening is at bottom of the tank. You must first flip the tank upside down to refill. It does not sit flat, so you must balance it. When adding water, which makes it heavy, it becomes AWKWARD. Then you must turn the heavy tank over again. I don't understand why a refill portal is not at the top to make a little more user friendly. Refilling it is essentially the only "interface" I have with the unit once setting are selected. It would be difficult for small person or older person to manage.

Was hoping this unit was thee one

Michigan winters = dry home. We have wood floors & timber frame beams so we need more moisture during winter months when heat comes on Late October- Mid April. I just hate the white dust it creates. Just started using unit three weeks ago, I soaked filter for the 24 hours set it to 50% and the dust within 2 days was astonishing. Any flat surface,white dust. I have well water which is hard ( limescale) but do have a water softner Am I know required to buy 14 gallons of filtered water weekly to be able to utilize this unit without dust? I've dialed it down to 45% and have only used cool/ low settings. Anyone else use softened water ? I may have to get an HVAC contractor in and spend the bucks on a whole house unit attached thru furnace. That sucks!
Pros: Adjustable Settings, Quiet
Cons: Difficult to Fill, Heavy / Bulky

Since I switched to distilled water, the unit is wonderful. When using tap (pre-treated water), there was white dust everywhere. I was choking on it and there was a haze in the house. I wishe the use of distilled water was in the booklet. I read about using it in another blog.
