poorly designed water tank

ok here goes. Humidifier really performs well. Nice mist output, quiet operation, and really did a nice job humidifying my downstairs. Cleaning was't so bad at all. Now, that being said, after a month of using it, it developed a leak where the two parts of the tank come together on the back of the tank. Rather than it be a two piece setup as it is now, the tank should be one single casting to eliminate that issue. When you have a 2 gallon plus plastic reservoir filled with water it becomes weak and the weakest point is that seam where the tank is fused together. a better adhesive or having the tank be a single piece of plastic would be much more durable. I have read several reviews where premature tank leakage occurred and I find that design to be very poor as far as durability goes. Plus, this machine could be better if you incorporated a UV-c sterilizer to the unit to help kill bacteria in the standing water in the unit. Other than the poorly designed tank this machine is great.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great unit for my bedroom

This is the third unit I have owned of this same model. After five years of use starting with the first sub freezing night and will into spring it helps keep us health and comfortable as we sleep. Hardly notice the quiet hum as it keeps the humidity just right.

After spending more on this humidifier than on any other I've bought, I expected more. The mineral cartridge indicates it needs to be replaced after only about 2 weeks use, so this winter I have used 3 already. And the cartridges are expensive. On top of that a fine white dust is spewed out of this humidifier and I need to dust and clean off surfaces of all kinds nearly every day.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I apologize for the inconvenience with the humidifier. The indicator light to replace the mineral cartridge is on a timer, roughly 800 hours of use. If the indicator light is coming on sooner, there is a failure within the control. We would be happy to issue a warranty replacement to you by calling our consumer service department at 800-234-0604. Regarding the white dust, this occurs when using regular tap water. The mineral cartridge breaks down minerals except for the sodium in the water, causing the white dust. Any misting humidifier will emit this white dust. To reduce the white dust, using distilled water will limit or eliminate the white dust all together, in addition you would not need a mineral cartridge if using distilled water.

Two of these didn't work and two leaked all over

Over the past 3 or 4 years, I have had to return this product twice because they didn't work correctly after a few months and also had to return 1 because it leaked all over my living room carpet and I had to replace the padding under the carpet. I had another one sent to me in 2010 and after a year and a half of use, it also leaked all over my carpet again. This product is junk in my opinion. I'm sick and tired of having to send them back and vornado sending me another one, It's in the trash. The UPS delivery man even laughs with all the packages from Vornado that are delivered to my house. Save you money unless you have plenty to replace carpet.

Where did all that water come from

Placed order online, excellent service, rapid shipment with excellent tracking information. Unit works as advertised and is quiet. Output is cool to very cool with powerful fan. If placed too close it may cause a draft and make you feel cold. Water reservoir may be too heavy for some users when full. Only complaint so far is that it is difficult to move. The tank does not provide any means of moving the entire unit. It must be removed. The base is still rather hefty with water still in bottom of unit. There are no hand grabs on the base anywhere. Unit must be tilted to get your fingers and hand under the bottom and then can be moved. Overall, good unit which may be made better in some ways.

A few years ago, we purchased two whole room humidifiers. We were impressed with the performance and ease of operation. They both have performed flawlessly. One unit recently stopped operating which surprised us. We called the factory and they replaced the unit as promised in their warranty. This was a welcome surprise in an environment where most manufacturers skirt or flagrantly sidestep the promise they hold out when you purchase their product. They are the only company we have experienced that builds a "great product," and then has the character to stand behind it. Needless to say, we are customers for life. We will also make sure our friends hear of the Vornado product. Kudos to the folks at Vernado!
