best all-in-one for me

After having used my MFC5840cn for about 8 years i switched to this one and i just wanted to emphasize here how much easier Brother had made it for everyone .
From opening of box to installation, wireless network setup, and software installation , everything was just real easy, im sure it will be even for noobies .
Bigger scan area and also bigger ink capacity with the 65 series cartridges while still being compatible with the lesser 61 series .

Not too happy with photo quality.

I bought the printer because I think it is a great price for an 11" x 17" 4 in 1 machine. I love having 2 paper trays, but I think the photo printing is way too dark. I wanted a good photo printer and am very disapointed. Now I have to go back to my old HP 1100 to get good photos.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Very good, but not quite great

I've only had this machine for a few weeks and so I have not yet used all of its features. The black and white copies are crisp, but color is not as top notch as I was hoping. The fax works nicely as does the scanner. However, it will not scan 3-D items, so steer clear if this is your goal for the scanner part of the unit. I've not yet attempted the photo capture feature, so cannot comment on it. Overall, for the price, it seems to be a very solid unit with a nice capability to work with ledger sized papers. I'm thus far pleased with the machine.

Nice 11x17 multifunction printer for the reasonable price. Works well as a small office printer. Ink is a bit spendy if you don't shop around.

Pleasant surprise

I purchased the MFC-6490CW for its wireless ability plus having all-in-one features. I was amazed at how easy it was to set up and use with my home wifi. I also have since changed my internet access to a wireless MIFI2200 and was able to connect it with very little effort.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I am very happy with this all in one machine. I bought it for its capability to print 11x17 ledger size. It is not very fast - I think Brother's speed estimates are wildly optimistic, but I expected that, as all manufacuteres are optimistic on their printing speeds. Any, I wasn't interested in a speedy printer. I did want one that printed large format, and had a scanner and copier with a document feeder. The scanner/copier works very well, and I am very impressed with the ability of the scanner to convert documents to editable text. I couldn't care less about the fax capability. Fax is very old school, and hardly anyone uses fax anymore. Certainly, not when you can scan and email documents. I do recommend this machine.

It's great and Easy to use

The print quality is exceptional - very crisp. Responds quickly to wireless promts to print from our computer. The copy and scanning ability is the best I have ever used - particularly the large document glass - works great for some of our projects. This is the ONLY printer we have seen in stores with this feature. One improvement on future models of this printer design I would like to have the ability to print on larger paper for photo album projects: 12"x 12" or 13"x 20"

Well Worth Considering

I had one of these machines at work and liked it so well I bought one for home. I need to be able to scan and print tabloid size plans and images. This Printer/Scanner is the most reliable I've ever had and does not clutter my computer with artsy craftsy software or software demos.
The wireless feature is a plus as well as the dependability. I took a few tries to get the wireless hooked up right, but I'm sold on the Brothers All-in-one!!!
