Almost there

I love turbo tax and have been using it for years. However, this year when I was filing I was away from my home and didn't have my tax documents from last year, just because of this I was not able to e-file. In order to efile you have to have your gross income for the previous year, I wish there was another option like other security questions. What an inconvenience!!! I hate the idea of not efiling. Also, I feel that if you're going to promote the chatting function you have live operaters actually chatting and being able to answer questions as if you would call in. I didn't like that it is adertised but is more of a frequently asked questions kind of thing or you can pay to get more advice.

Worth it for the convenience

I've used TurboTax to file my taxes for the past 6 years, and I've always been impressed. The layout stays the same year after year, but the ease of use gets better. Unfortunately, the cost per program as well as state forms have increased greatly. Hopefully these price increases will subside in the following years.

I bought this program, just as I did in previous years. 10 and counting. I did find that the program prompted me to buy the state version for Tennessee. We dont have a state tax. Glich or trick to get more money?

Getting difficult
on April 13, 2010

The guided tour is getting too complicated. When I finish an area the return takes me back to a page that I must use my mouse to get to the next item below. It would be best to take me to the next topic, and only at the end show a review page.
It is getting too expensive and almost easier to use the paper forms.

Starting to let me down
on April 15, 2010

This year I had to go outside TurboTax to obtain the information I needed and evaluate my options more than any of the 12 years in the past that I've used this software. Appears to me that it's not keeping up with the times, and it's not saving me as much time in preparing my tax return as it used to. There was very little guidance in the stepwise process and no relevant information was given when sought for some parts of my return (e.g., tax underpayment penalty, COBRA subsidy repayment). In fact, I was shocked to see that TT just plunked a $900+ penalty into my form 1040 without alerting me. Also, I do a lot of stock trades every year and enter them manually (I won't give ANYONE my account passwords) -- what a tedious process! This could be done in about a quarter of the clicks and pages that TT prompts you to complete. Further, it took me days to obtain the information not provided by TT that I needed to complete my return. I spent hours on the phone listening to elevator music and being bounced around from one advisor to another. TT has no interpreation nor guidance for many of the tax rules. My time is valuable, so I may consider having an accountant do my taxes from here on in.

Not good for PC-to-MAC converts

One of the things I liked the most about TurboTax was that the interviewed was shaped based on last year's return. Not this time. I bought a MAC since my last return, and Turbotax could not import last year's return into this year's. So I had to start from scratch. Very tedious!

difficult to navigate
on October 15, 2010

In order to navigate to individual pages or fields to update information, you have to go to the main page for a larger category and then walk through all the pages until you get to the one you want to modify/update. Very cumbersome that way. There needs to be a detailed navigation tree so you can quickly go to an individual sheet or field.
