Not too many people really now enough about taxes if they have complicated 1099 brokerage returns or even retiree income. or K-1 forms.
I have worked as a tax accountant for large firms and I am now a senior citizen with my husband on verge of retirement, and I am starting to get confused on what retired seniors can deduct.
Unless you have a simple form with only bank income and taking standard deductions, most people could not still use it. And people with simple forms probably do not have computer to do it on.
I think you need some taxes for dummy workbooks. Also a run down of new laws for each year presented at beginning much like the 1040 instruction book usually would be helpful.
Also had forgotten how to transfer last years income. Thought it came from last years turbo tax. Realized it was in the new 2009 turbo tax under transfer a little later. The number crunching and protections are excellent. The IRA contribution deductions allowable were right on. had trouble following the paper worksheet by the IRS book. But they ended up agreeing with turbo tax. Also at beginning seemed to have trouble editing. It did not seem to be editing. Realized I forgot to enter something that was suppose to show first. Worked out okay after filling in other information or some income. Takes a little time to get used to it after not using it for year. Now I really know how to use it, but won't by next year. Be nice if you had a little booklet with cd for how to transfer or on the cd right up front as soon as it starts up without having to go to help

Better than Tax Cuts

I have used Turbo Tax for years and just last year, I tried "Tax Cuts", then this year, switched back to "Turbo Tax."
Turbo Tax for 2009 was much easier. Thank You!
Using the estimated deductions to see if I qualified for standard deductions was a great idea. Saved me the time to look for all those receipts, when in the end, I really didn't need them at all. The program is well laid out for easy understanding. Thank You again. WPB FL.

Why is State so Pricey?

The optional State filing charges ($45 for the software and $20 for E-filing) is obscene given that my state has free on-line E-filing and uses the federal return for all but a few items for the data.

BUGGY SOFTWARE DOES VEX ME!

This disk was purchased at Staples like 2007 and 2008 were.
They load on my desk top home computer but the 2009 required Framework 3.5. I followed your procedures to the letter but got the 1603 error message (fatal error) and of course the update did not load, so all that good turbo tax program became worthless and frustrating. After obtaining this laptop it did load on it but there is no printout capability except on the desktop. Buggy software does vex me! I will look more carefully at my options next year. For now I am just glad it is over except getting a printout of the PDF file.
