Best TurboTax Ever
on March 10, 2010

A couple of years ago I was proud of myself when I purchased TaxCut Basic for $1.00 at our local Dollar Tree store. It worked well, but I had to mail my return (didn't want to pay extra to E-file).
The 2009 version of TurboTax is the easiest and quickest I have ever used. And since I used the basic version, it was free, including free E-file.
As I progressed through the return, the software would periodically offer me upgrades and additional features (always for a price), but I just clicked "no thank you" and moved on. This was the least painful tax experience I've had in years, and it was 100% free.

Had a problem with K-1s a few years back but they are handled better this year. Why you continue to provide me with a K-1 from info I got from MY K1 is odd. Why print out a new form that duplicates what the partnership provided.?

TurboTax Gets Worse Every Year
on March 19, 2010

I've used TTax for at least 15 years. The older version that walked you through each tax issue taught me some things I didn't know. The newer version makes you choose the subjects you want to work on so you may miss things (the old version let you do that as well so more experienced users could do their return faster). The older versions also let you jump right to the form a whole lot eaiser. AND I HATE ALL THE SCREENS THAT ASK YOU TO BUY SOMETHING!! They are confusing and a waste of time.

Having never e-filed before I was apprehensive but the software was helpful and uncomplicated so it was easy to do.

worked well, but....

Imported my carry over capital losses from last year from a different tax program, I didn't have to enter them manually. I was also able to download investment transactions, but I did have to call Intuit and my investment companies to get it to work. I could be more of a seamless download, with better instructions or something. The instructions were not clear enough to download the info with out making several phone calls to different companies, including Intuit (Turbo-Tax)

poor search engine
on April 2, 2010

even if I use the topic name the IRS uses, the search engine does not direct me to the form or the spot in the walkthrough where the topic is. i.e., SEP-IRA search directed me to a definition, but not the form or the page where to enter the contribution amount.

You make it more simple to file each year. I hope the Fed's don't realize you are simplifying the filing system. If they do it will be all over for us.
