Loved the total experience. The program could not understand my folks taxes. Told me that Missouri full time resident long form was the preferred way to file then wouldn't file by that form. endded up filing theirs by hand. My return as well as both my children, including a son with income from two other states and none in Missouri went smooth as silk. I'll most likely be back next year.

I had two problems. 1.) It wanted me to "edit" the name of one of my charities. No explanations available. I had to give up and drop it. 2.) My corporate pension on Form 1040-R appeared on the tax form as an IRA distribution. I have no explanation for this. It could have been my fault. It did not happen last year. It's not clear to me, how the software tells these entries apart. Finally, your language is not clear that an overpayment of tax that is left for next year is not a payment of Estimated Tax . Your wording differs from that of Form 1040-ES. I think you have downgraded Basic in order to collect more money for the higher priced versions. I might try one of your competitors next year, - after so many years of Turbotax.

For your interview question concerning early withdrawals from retirement accounts, you continue to incorrectly ask "Did you quit working the year after you turned 55?" The IRS regulations provide that if you quit working the year you turned age 55 but before age 59 1/2, withdrawals from a 403B7 are exempt from early withdrawal penalty. For those under 59 1/2, your question should read: "Did you quit working the year you turned 55 or after?" I pointed this out last year. You have not corrected it.

Program is getting more user friendly

When starting TurboTax 2009 you are asked to check for program updates. After downloading and installing any new updates, the program gives the option of resuming TurboTax but instead closes the program. This requires restarting and getting the same question "Do you want to check for updates?" It's an infinite loop until you decline the update check and proceed directly to the program. Not a good way for the customer to begin using your software and I would think that bug would be easliy detected and fixed by your programers.
