I absolutely love it. It's really easy, cheap compares to other Co. that do your taxes and the best is that you don't even have to go to the post office to mail it., just click it....thank you TurboTax.

Overpriced, untimely updates

I bought the BASIC program in Jan, 2010 from Office Max for $29.95, a fair price I thought. I was shocked that the state update (for Michigan) cost another $39.95 plus 6% tax even though I downloaded it myself, saving Intuit packaging and distribution charges.
Everytime I started the program, it downloaded lengthy updates over the internet. It updated itself today (March 26th), two days after its last update. This gives me little confidence that the program has been carefully prepared with that many (LATE) corrections. Intuit's website says if the updates cause an error, you will just have to file an amended return!!
Using the easy step method to enter data on K1 (partnership) forms, the program forgot to ask for the partnership income, just the interest. If I had not corrected this manually in the Forms view, I would have submitted an incorrect return (wrong by a BIG amount) and been liable to penalties from the IRS.

Keep improving and keep the error checks feature, re-checks after IRS rejects 1st e-filing and 2nd chance to e-file for free. How about providing free audit protection from IRS for return customers. Thanks.

Probably faster and easy filing

It was frustrating to be prompted for things I knew I would not get. Especially as the laws do sometimes change and I can not be sure the rules are not different. For example, we have a FSA for the full amount allowed. I had to hunt down and calculate the fees for child care only to be told, "Nope, you still do not qualify for the credit. You got it already." And I was prompted for charitable contributions after the software suggested that I file for the standard deduction. Last year I thought "It will not be worth taking the standard deduction." But Turbotax forced me through the itemization. At the end, the software recommended the standard deduction. At least last year it was close. This year it was not close.
