My Story is Sadly, the Same

I came to this site to learn what has replaced this model and what I'm finding is sadly, stories that are exactly like mine. This fridge was one of many GE Profile products purchased at the urging of our contractor during a kitchen renovation. I have LOVED this refrigerator, but it has stopped working just as people described...first the ice-maker and right after that the freezer and now, days later, the fridge is starting to lose its cool. GE techs came today and said that we have a leak and would need a compressor, as well. the refrigerator is 9 years old and I'm heartbroken about this. We were already disappointed in the GE Profile dishwashers we bought at the same time, but GE was terrific in giving us a break on the repair of an even older GE wall oven that I also love (going on 24 years now!). Because I have really loved this refrigerator, I will consider GE again, but I am truly amazed in a terrible way that we only got 9 years out of this appliance, which as many have said, was very expensive.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Seems to be a trend here

Had refrigerator for 12 years and now is leaking refrigerant from system. Other than compressor, this part of the system has no moving parts. Based on the number of same issues, this seems like a manufacturing or design issue. My grandmothers refridge lasted 50-60 years. If properly designed and manufactured, there is no reason that the sealed system should develop a leak. Hard to recommend product, but 12 years may be better than other manufacturers. Maybe I would have been better off buying a cheap one, be lucky to get 10 years, then just do it again. Better solution is to resolve the leaking issue!!!

Hello. We are sorry that the sealed system has a leak. It may be difficult to resolve a leaking sealed system as you must first find the leak and determine how to repair the leaking location. This is beyond our level of assistance and would require a service call to see if leak can be found and then determine what is needed to make the repair. It may not b cost effective to attempt a repair. Please be safe and cautious. Geoff@GEA

GE Profile 28.5 Cu. Ft. French-Door is Problematic

I wish to correct my previous review. I thought my product was delivered with the other appliances. Now I see that it was delivered June 6, 2008. It is 12 years old not 3 1/2 years old. I apologize for that misinformation. However, it is still too soon for this expensive refrigerator's compressor to fail. Please advise, will you at least provide the part needed to restore its functionality. The technician said I need a compressor. Thank you
