We got this as upgrades to our old phones. Yes it does very well texting and checking email ,etc Camera is excellent. However battery life leaves something to be desired. Also phone locks up a lot. And just turning it off then back on doesn't always work. You need to take the battery out of unit, then replace it again. Overall it's an ok phone. I would recommend it to people. however I would also tell them about the "little quirks". I took it on an overnight motorcycle trip. fully charged. Next morning dead battery. When I got home, plugged in to charge and some sort of nonsense came on the screen. I then pulled the battery and put it back turned phone on and it said the battery was at 3/4 charged? Wierd.
i like this phone for the ease of texting, the side keyboard is nice however, it has some problems. About once a week the my texts will just stop sending. They will get hung up in the outbox. I have to shut the phone done and reboot for it to work again. This happens often. The reception is fine. I do not use the internet so i cannot judge this. Some of the features seem convoluted in that it takes many layers to get thru the options. I would not buy this particular phone again but i have had good luck with other Samsung in the past.
Pros: Bright display, Inexpensive, Durable, Realistic color
Cons: Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This phone locks up for no apparent reason. I can't just shut it off when it happens, I have to take the battery out. AT&T has indicated everything is up to date. I heard the same problem from another user, they purchased a new phone. I like the phone, the size and the features, but I'm considering a new phone too because of this issue.
Pros: Bright display, Durable
Cons: locks up
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Not such a great "impression"

For a midrange messaging phone, the Impression was initially impressive. Mostly because of the AMOLED screen; bright and crisp.
I personally text more than I talk, so the full QWERTY was the first thing that drew me to the phone. The keyboard lacks some nifty shortcuts and characters - for example no equals [=] sign - but performance wise is decent.
After the initial impression of the Impression wore off, I came to the realization that the phone is plagued with problems. It regularly freezes. Sometimes the touch screen gets flaky (or stops working altogether). Lately the screen goes blank when opened (and flickers otherwise).
I've never dropped it or got it wet. A quick Google search (or YouTube) will tell the tale that my issues are commonplace with this phone.
Samsung is better than this. Avoid the Impression unless you get it free or super dirt cheap.
We bought this phone for my mom, who at the time, had no idea how to text. We were looking for something inexpensive that didn't require a data plan. Instead, less than six months later, we ended up with a paperweight. The phone will come on, we can see the screeen, we just can't TOUCH it. We can't access anything. I was hoping that we could plug it into the computer and access the contents with the software we downloaded, but you have to have access to the touch screen to tell the phone how to connect. There is no way, that I am aware of, to access the contents of the phone without the now non-functioning touch screen. I took it to the retailer where I bought it and and was told that I'll have to mail it in and they'll send us a new one, but if we're going to lose everything saved on the phone, I'd like to erase the personal contents of the phone. Of course, I can't do that either, because the touch screen doesn't work.
Pros: Bright display
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Whereas it is a nice looking phone, I've had to replace this phone four separate times due to dropped calls, calls going directly to voicemail without ringing, screen freezing and going black, no private calls, only speaker reception, and being locked out of internet assess. I would definitely not recommend this particular model to anyone. It definitely is not worth the $$ I paid for it. I mainly use my phone for calls and that's where the quality is poor.
In the summer of 2010 I finally was able to get a cell since I was entering Middle School. It was everything a needed, a Durable texting machine. It was a great first phone but in the coming days I will be upgrading to a iPhone 5. A solute to the good old phone but being a great phone. By the way i've dropped this phone at least 20 times face down but i've only just started to make some scratches. The only problem i've had with it is after about a month the key board started screwing up major. But I just use the on screen key board.
