Great buy

I just purchased this projector initially to show power point presentations to children at Sunday school. However, as I started to play more with its features, I realized that it is great to do more than just presentations. I will start watching movies at home with it too! I already tried watching one. The resolution is great and the picture is clear. The only drawback I would say is that the volume on the projector is very poor. If you use a computer to view movies or anything with sound, it is best to also hook up your computer to speakers for a better auditory experience.

EX51 Projector

So far I like the quality of the projector. It gives clear sharp images on the screen. I'm still getting used to all the features. I couldn't get the cd rom that came with it to open so I can read the users manual and learn all the neat features. We have several computers and it won't open on any of them. Other than that I don't have any complaints so far.

EPSON EX51 Projector

The projector produces awesome details and clarity through its HDMI port. I initially plugged in a XBOX 360 to see how it will perform and I was awed by the clarity and smooth edges. Game consoles demands a HD display this is why I tested it with an XBOX.
Some of the problems I discover were there was no Audio Out ports to plug into a amplified speaker system. This would have been easy to include on this system. The speakers on the projector does not provide sufficient volume and also it get's drowned out with the projector fan. This is a Major Minus.
Another minus I observed is when I had the system running for about 20 minutes as I fiddling with its menu and setting was the intense heat it emmits after 10 or 15 minutes. With a 2500 lumens I understand that it will produce a lot of heat but there should be some way to cool the lamp down.

Display Not Sharp Enough-You get what you pay for
on November 16, 2011

I replaced my old InFocus projector with this Epson projector. After reviewing the specs, they looked comparable. However, after using this Epson projector I have found that it will not focus as sharply as my previous projector did, which is a big downfall. The resolution just isn't crisp, and thus no matter what I do to it, I cannot get the display sharp enough to read most text items clearly. We tend to project Excel documents and other things that require sharp detail in order to be legible. This projector makes it quite difficult to read small numbers or text, like on an Excel spreadsheet or a web page.
The good:
As for displaying PowerPoint or videos, it tends to project ok, because the resolution is not as important on these type of items. Also, the USB cord installs the software easily on Windows XP systems, and then all you have to do is plug in the USB cord at any time to change your monitor over to the projector - much better than using the blue, dual monitor cords.
However, if you have a newer version of Windows, as I have now with Windows 7, you have to go to the Epson download site to get the correct driver. The cord will not do the automatic install on Windows 7 like it does for XP. It is also not as easy to use on a MAC. MACs require the monitor cable to be used, instead of being able to use the USB cable.
Summary: I paid half as much for this projector as I did for the InFocus, and it is clear (or not clear, lol) that you get what you pay for. If you need sharp, crisp resolution then this is NOT the projector you want to choose.

Disappointed with quality

Purchased this projector for an organization I'm a member of. It's 2 years old and has been used 3 times for 4-5 hours each (max 20 hours). Had been very happy with the projector quality and ease of use.
UNTIL I went to use it again last week and the projector had flashing red lights and wouldn't turn on properly. Trouble shooting manual and customer support person said the fan sensor had gone bad. I was unable to use the projector. The nearest Epson service location is 500 miles away and there was no possible way to get it fixed in time.
Needless to say I had to find an alternatate projector for my event and I'm very disappointed in the life quality of the product and the location of service locations. I knew the bulb would eventually burn out but based on the use of this machine the fan sensor shouldn't have gone bad and I still have no idea how much it will cost to fix the problem. Not looking forward to it.

Loving It

The EX-51 is very easy to setup and use. Most of the adjustments are automatic yet you can still tweek them if you need. The projector auto detects the signal and changes the picture and resolution accordingly. I am currently showing just on a blank wall and the picture is great. At 100" if you sit in front of the projector it is too close and you see some screening effect, but 2 feet behind the projector and the effect is gone. So thats roughly 14 feet from the screen/wall. The 720p picture is amazing even without a screen. I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to tell the difference but I was very wrong.
My only issue is the lack of video inputs. 1HDMi, 1 composite and 1 s-video. I am having to plug and unplug devices, cable to blue-ray or different gaming consoles. But I believe most projectors are this way.
This is my first run with a video projector and I am loving it!!

Excellent Projector for the money

I purchased this to replace a Proxima S520 that was only an 800 lumen projector. The 2500 Lumen output of the EX51 is remarkable in ambient inside daylight! I use this for business and personal presentations, so I can't wait to use it for my next DVD presentation! Out of the box it was easy to set up and get operational. The leveling feet could be a little sturdier, but not a real problem. The included soft carry case is a little sparse in storage compartments, but again not a real issue. The menu is terrific and all adjustments are easy to make and set. But for the fact that I have only had this projector for less than a week, I'd have given it a 5 rating. I'd recommend this projector to anyone seeking a quality projector.
