Invest heavily in batteries

The camera itself is all i could ask for when working properly but mine goes through rechargeable batteries faster than a kid with candy on Halloween. I am trying to get some satisfaction in this regard and "when" this is settled the camera will be great.
Pros: great auto and manual
Cons: 10 picture battery life.

Great camera except flash and battery charging
on November 10, 2010

Camera as such is great. But be aware of 2 major disadvantages. If you are okay with them, then you can definitely go for this camera ... great zoom and pictures.
1. If you use flash, you literally have to wait 6-7 seconds before you click the next picture. So, if it's like a birthday event where you are using flash its painful. But if you are not in a hurry to take snaps, its fine.
2. When I bought it, I have mistaken the AC adapter as something available to charge camera battery. So, if you have a battery charger and 2-3 sets, it should be fine.

Excellent Value

I purchased the camera shortly before a special vacation in Europe. I took over 1200 pictures in various lighting conditions from subdued church lighting to bright sunshine, exclusively on "Auto". The camera handled all of the lighting conditions exceptionally well. The IS mode worked very well as numerous shots were on a moving ship in windy conditions and the imagery is sharp. I experienced excellent battery life (NiMH batteries only) - able to shoot all day (>250 pictures) on a single set of batteries. I am an experienced digital photographer (more than 7 years and 5 cameras) and have a professional background in electro-optics.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, good battery life

Great Features
on March 6, 2010

I wanted a camera that had a decent zoom and a mode that let me control some of the attributes such as focus, shutter speed, etc. Manual mode allows me to do just that. Automatic mode is great for shots that you need to just point and shoot. Manual mode is excellent to get those quality shots that automatic has trouble pulling off.
The battery life is so-so. It's not any worse than most other cameras though. It only takes two AAs so it's easy to pop in new ones when needed.
Some areas (usually the darker areas) in a picture are a tad grainy, but it's only noticeable viewing the picture at actual size. Even then, it's not that bad.
Overall, with it's simplicity and those extra modes and features to give you more than automatic can give, this is a great camera. If you don't quite want a DSLR but want to be able to do more than a standard point-and-shoot camera, I'd recommend this camera.
Pros: Nice features/settings, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

An amazing camera for the money

I purchased this camera because of the way it felt in my hand. Ergonomically it's more like a conventional film camera than a compact digital, which makes shooting faster and easier. It fits easily into my rather large hands and I can easily take sharp shots even with IS turned off.
Picture quality is first rate. Sharpness is great and noise is well controlled. Yes, noise is noticeable at higher ISO settings but this is unavoidable with the small sensor used in this class of camera and is expected. It is, nonetheless, much better in this regard than my previous digital and certainly acceptable.
This is a very fine and capable camera and, considering its modest asking price, a great value.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, easy to use

love it so far

After looking for several months at cameras and what you can get at different price ranges, settled on this one. Have had for about 2 weeks, and so far, love it! Wanted something with ease and portability and price of point and shoot, but with good picture quality & zoom. I am a casual user, but many years ago had more serious cameras. Had looked at some of the superzoom cameras, but decided they were too big and expensive for uses I had in mind (kids sports, family vacations, etc.) and I was not ready to take the dslr plunge. Love however that this camera feels more like dslr in yr hand, as many point and shoots feel too small to me. Love that flash is optional -- I've gotten some very nice interior shoots without it. Also love that you can go in and set manually if desired -- have not done yet but at some point will certainly be tempted. Have not had a Canon before, but am finding the interface pretty intuitive and easy so far and like the review features much better than my previous digital camera. Main thing is that picture quality and zoom seem absolutely spectacular to me at this price range (I paid less than $200). My daughter was able to get a picture of a dolphin breaking the surface of the ocean, as we sat out on the beach! Negatives are, as others have said, that it eats up batteries (though I'm still experimenting), battery compartment is a little fussy to open, and a viewfinder would of course be great but nothing in this price range seems to have that anymore. I do think the lcd screen is much easier to see than other cameras I've used. It is big and bright. As others have said, it would have been nice to have a complete manual rather than something you have to print out, especially since it seems like there is so much you can do with this camera -- company should support that facet of the camera, as well as its point & shoot automated features.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings, Short battery life

GREAT Digital Camera

I would highly recommend this camera. It's easy to use with a nice large screen to view your pics on. I was going to purchase another brand but decided before purchasing online that I would actually take the time and go into the store to hold and test out the different cameras available. This one by far blew my expectations out of the water and I chose to purchase it.
I'm just taking basic pics and want to spend time on learning the other features and options on this camera and that is the only reason I gave 4 stars.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, good battery life, durable
Cons: just a litle bulkier than others

Great little camera

Just got the camera for a Christmas present and shot some photos at Christmas dinner with it and was very impressed. (Since just about all digital cameras take good outdoors photos I use inside photos to test the photo quality). The flash did not wash out details like on one of my other digital and the low light photos outside around the fire were excellent.
The short battery life is easily fixed with the use of Lithium batteries (I do this with all digital cameras and can take close to 500 photos on one set of batteries).
The quick guide is kind of skimpy on info but I found what I was looking for in the downloaded manual.
I noticed no "Action" photo setting but this seems to be made up for with the continuous shooting feature. I will test this out in Feb at a auto race. All in all I am quite satisfied with the camera.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Short battery life
