This camera is a perfect way to take high quality, powerful shots quickly. I use rechargeable batteries and that extends the battery life a great deal.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Heavy/Bulky
I would recommend this to a friend!

Quick to take a picture

I like how quick you can take a picture from the time you turn on the camera and between pictures. On my last camera it took too long between pictures and I would miss a good shot. I like the zoom and how close you can bring things up. I don't like how hard it is to open the little battery door and how many batteries it burns. I will try good rechargeable batteries. I also like the price for what you get.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Short battery life, fix the battery door
I would recommend this to a friend!

Best Pocket Camera I Have Used So far
on November 3, 2009

I take a lot of “Rock Concert” photos. I own a professional Nikon D70s with a 70mm - 200mm lens which is heavy to lug around. Some concert venues will let you take pictures with a pocket camera - but not with a professional camera unless you have a press pass.
I was looking for a pocket camera which has most of the features of a high end camera but will let me take pictures without obtaining a press pass. This camera is it. My friend who owns one let me use it to take pictures at a big 10,000 seat arena. I was row P from the floor and diagonal from the stage. Manual setting: ISO 1600 and a 200 shutter speed as not to get blurry musicians. The pictures came out better than great without the use of a flash.
Of course with any camera using a high ISO will give you “noise”, but if you use a photo import program with noise reduction turned on then the problem is reduced.
Yes, I would of liked Canon to include a rechargeable battery as in the smaller pocket cameras, but 2 AA batteries is not a big deal especially if you use rechargeable ones.
I will be buying this camera for myself. I highly recommend this camera.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable, durable, fantastic zoom range
Cons: Short battery life

my first digital camera....have several canon film cameras I have used for nearly 35 years and never been disatified...so far I am very impressed with the quality of this camera as well as the excellent high quality of the photos...construction of camera seems high quality and VERY easy to use...I also carry it with me at all times as it is very compact for a 12X zoom camera.I should have gone digital sooner ,but resisted because I was afraid I would not pick-up my film cameras again. Hope that does not happen.

Another Canon Camera!

This is my second Canon camera - having used a PowerShot A75 for the past years but it just died. I wanted to stay with a Canon because of accessories I already have and the ease of transfer of pictures to my computer. I originally looked at a "sub-compact" but it was too small and did not have the same features as the SX120IS. The price was great. The pictures I have taken so far have clarity and quality color. The controls were easy to adapt to - somewhat smaller than the A75, but still accessible. LCD was bright and usable in sunlight. For cons, the battery cover was difficult to open and there was no view finder. All together, however, a great buy for me.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, easy transfer of images to computer, loved the "video" aspect
Cons: Missing features/settings, no view finder, battery compartment difficult to open
I would recommend this to a friend!

If only!

If only it had a viewfinder, I would buy two! Without a viewfinder, action shots are virtually impossible, even with a stabilizer. Following a fast moving subject by using the LCD doesn't allow for proper framing of the subect. Incidentally, those who complain about battery usage obviously don't use the Eveready lithium plus disposable AA batteries. They've lasted me a year in my A1000!
Pros: easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Lack of good instruction manual

I am generally pleased with my SX120 IS but puzzled as to why Canon seems to indicate this model number does not exist. I have on in my hands. Further, the manual is not well written except at the snapshot level and the camera is capable of a lot more. For example, how do you take a self timed pictures? The icons are confusing and poorly described. On the plus side the low light pictures are as good as any camera I've used. For a casual snapshot camera I'd give a A-, for a more serious user a C. I probably won't buy Canon again given poor access to their on-line manuals.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable
