Only complaint really is against some organization’s (don’t remember… maybe Wirecutter) high marks for this toaster, including comments on even toasting. Doesn’t toast evenly for me. Some spots darker and toasted, other spots light and not so toasted.

Inexpensive, but toasts unevenly. One side of toast always comes out darker than the other - true for both slots, irrespective of settings. This seems to be because some of the elements are a little closer to the insulator and don't get as bright as others. And the manual doesn't describe what the different buttons do. You'd expect that "bagel" would toast one side darker than the other, but pushing that button doesn't do anything except make the Bagel light go on.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
