An exceptional camera for the price

We have several digital cameras that range from ultra compacts to DSLRs. This one replaces a camera similar in size that my wife carried in her purse or pocket. It had just too much shutter lag for quick shots. She still wanted the convenience of using easily available AA batteries. I also like having a viewfinder. The viewfinder is small but it is still nice to have in brighter areas and quick photo shots. I found the macro mode very excellent. I took some photos well within two inches. I was very impressed with the CD user guide. I think that is well written particularly for people less familiar with digital cameras. The printed quick start guide is the best I have seen. This is a fun and easy to use little camera.

Received this camera as a gift from my daughters Christmas 2009. It is the best camera that I've ever owned. I only wish that it had a little more Zoom but for 2009 3X zoom was high.
Pros: easy to use
Cons: could use more zoom

It worked great for about a year and then the view finder went blank. We were told that it would have to be serviced. The service was more than the camera.
Cons: short life span of camera
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is a new camera to me, but I've had several digital cameras in the past. This is the best camera I have ever had. Easy to use and understand; I love the viewfinder feature. I can blow up my pictures even using the zoom, and get great detail. it's so easy, I think it is a great camera for someone who just wants to take a lot of great pictures. The "auto" feature makes it a dream.

Smart Choice For The Money

My priority when purchasing a camera was to document items that I sell at online auctions. This is what makes the "easy" mode camera worth it's price. I have not, however, quite figured out the other features. The booklet and directions seem vague. With that said, it takes excellent pictures and is easy to use on the "auto" and "easy" modes. It basically does everything for the user, making many of the other settings obsolete. The camera also takes great video and it is easy to use that feature. If I had to purchase again, it would be the same PowerShot A1100IS.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life, durable
Cons: Complicated controls/menu

My wife has had this camera for 4 months. I have an A630. My wifes camera only has two AA batteries. She uses lithium batteries instead .They last much longer but, more expensive. With plenty of light she turns off the flash to conserve battery life. it's just one click. I use rechargable batteries. She carries spares. 1 minute tops to swap batteries. The newer, even smaller cameras have internal rechargeable batteries. They drain even quicker and need to be plugged in and take many hours to recharge. Today I am buying an A1000, 12.1 Mega Pixil. A word of advice. A flash is only good within 10 feet. If you don't need it don't use it. LCD's use up batteries also turn it off and use the view finder.Use your head save your batteries
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

I was a serious 35mm SLR user for 45 years before getting my A1100 IS. It is a great PHD (push here dummy) camera. It has a whole bevy of options, but I find my most reliable setting to be the AUTO position. I leave it there and get great shots. I am amazed at the sharpness of the lens in all shooting situations, including telephoto. I particularly like the viewfinder for sports shots and find the AA battery size very convenient. I don't see what other features you could want in another point-and-shoot camera..
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

The camera is just great .It is my first time to buy a Canon product. good features especially the view finder which is about non-existent now in most cameras. The only thing I do not like about it is the ability to open the battery/card compartment, I find it very, very difficult to do. Probably just me.. Any hints on how to do it easier??? My husband has to open it for me, and he has a hard time too. Otherwise, great camera,,,,,,
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: hard to open card/battery compartment.
