This Camera Lacks Functionability

I purchased this camera for my 80 year old father. While he loves it, being his first digital, it has limitations the consumer should be aware of. 1) You can not choose resolution settings ex: regular, fine, super fine, or the size of the photo, It only allows one size "L" 2) The camera does not allow you to erase all the pictures at once. You must erase them "one at a time" which is cumbersome, or use the computer to do it.
Pros: good battery life, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

A1100is problems
on August 22, 2009

While my new A1100is camera has nice features such as dial up modes & many other features, there are problems. The battery compartment door is very hard to close & sometimes causes the camera to fail. This is totally unacceptable. Also, some indoor lower light condition pictures are too grainey. When using flash takes too long between shots.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance, Flimsy Construction
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

SLOW

I was looking for a camera that could take a picture when I pressed the button. While it took a photo relatively fast, it took too long for the camera to be ready for the next shot. Even when I turned the display off. Very frustrating. Plus, the little 'door' for the batteries & camera card is too hard to open/close. I have an older A570is that is far superior to this.
Pros: Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Difficult to use
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Not happy with this camera

This camera just eats batteries. We are able to take maybe 10 photos before the battery goes dead. Most pictures come out burry. I have had Canons before and loved them. It is hard for me to believe that this camera is a Canon. I would recommend getting something else, especially if you have children or animals. It takes way too long to take the photo and no child or dog is going to sit still that long. We have missed a lot of priceless memories because the camera is fickle.
Pros: Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu
Cons: Dim LCD, Poor image quality, Poor Low-Light Performance, Short battery life
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I purchased this camera one day before a trip to France last May.My previous Canon had failed after ten years. This camera was a seamless transition from the old one. Took great pictures and had lots of features. Less than one year from purchase the camera is broken and will need repair or replacement for a battery issue.
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: Short battery life, Complicated controls/menu
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

costly experiment

I purchased this camera to replace my last inexpensive digital. I prefer a smaller lightweight camera because I always carry it with me in my purse. I chose this Canon specifically because it had a viewfinder. In bright sun you can't see an LCD screen and that's what went out on my last one. If your LCD screen isn't an option and there is no viewfinder you're kinda dead in the water. I find this camera very difficult to operate on the fly, slow to respond, complicated to do even simple things and the picture quality is less than optimal. There has been nothing about this camera that impresses me. I'm going back to the brand I prefer!
Pros: Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, has a viewfinder
Cons: Poor image quality, Poor Low-Light Performance, Difficult to use, Short battery life, Complicated controls/menu
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Not Thrilled

I recieved this as a gift for my birthday in Dec. 2009. It was a great gift--one that I had been hoping for! The quality of the pictures are GREAT! Some of the controls are simple and others are difficult to find, let alone use. The Instruction manual is not comprehensive enough-you must go online to find out more and even then, it is tough to get answers. But, I used it with what I could figure out. I went to take a picture in February 2010, and the focus is no longer working! I will return it and get a different model.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Dim LCD, Poor Low-Light Performance, Short battery life, Complicated controls/menu, poorly detailed instruction manual
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
