My fiance is a Pro Photographer and has gotten me into the hobby. Although he owns a SLR, I have no need for one. This camera is INCREDIBLE, especially for those of us that are "playing" with photography. The screen seems a little blurry until you snap the pic and then it gets clear. Thats prob the only con I can think of at the moment. Instead of carrying around his large bag with his SLR cam, I have talked my fiance into buying one of these for himself now for the moments he cant have the larger camera around.
I was amazed at the clarity in the imaging, especially once downloaded. All around...EXCELLENT camera. Canon has out excelled itself as usual.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, durable
I would recommend this to a friend!

Very Good Camera

Have only owned this camera a short time. Has impressive features and excellent image quality. Auto focus seems to work fairly well and I like the image stabalization. Auto mode works pretty well, but also has many different modes to chose from. I also like that it uses AA batteries. The instruction booklet was severly lacking as far as explaining various features and how to use them. Other than that it seems to be a good little camera.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: poor instruction manual

I was looking for a "smart" camera, loaded with features and compact at a good price. I found it! The PowerShot A1100 IS is the ticket for all types of photography. I have captured high speed images, low-light images, etc. with EXCELLENT results. I would highly recommend this camera for anyone that is as picky as me when it comes to electronics!
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance
Cons: Heavy/Bulky, Short battery life
I would recommend this to a friend!

PowerShot A1100 IS Good Solid Buy

Poor quality of the LCD image is annoying and gives minor issues with composing at times. The photos themselves are fine but you don't get a good feeling for the outcome of the actual shot due to the poor LCD quality . My previous Canon was a wysisyg w/r to the LCD displays.
How good the LCD image is also seems to vary with either distance and/or light, but I haven't figured it out yet. It's better at some times than others.
I'm learning to live with the annoyance as opposed to sending the camera back, but if it weren't for this annoyance, each rating could have been one higher than I gave it.
I like the larger, heavier cameras for less shake and holding comfort. The A1100IS is about as small as I would want the camera to get. My old A540 we perfect for size and weight. IMO smaller isn't necessarily better with cameras.
It does fit my old case/accessories perfectly well though so at least I saved money there. My old A540 served us well for a long time but just couldn't withstand a drop onto concrete :-) .
I chose this particular model purposely because it was so similar to the A560 I had in order to avoid a learning curve - I'm more than satisfied with it that way - other then new features, I already knew exactly how to use it.
I think the ZoomBrowser 40 needs a little work yet:
The accompanying software ZoomBrowser seems a little finisky for getting photos from the camera.. I've gone back to using the old ZoomBrowser simply because it's quicker and better with no hassles. I still haven't figured out how to get all my still not archived folders onf the camera folders to show in the new camera's ZB but the old one manages it perfectly. ZB40 should be looked at for improvements by its authors.
The MACRO features work well.
Like the broken camera this one replaces, it will get used at least weekly to support galleries for a non-profit organization's galleries, plus considerable personal use.
I plan to see what it'd cost to fix the old camera but I susptect it's not possible since the lens was extended when it was dropped and hit the cement pretty hard. The lens is now partway open/closed and cannot move further either way; which means it wouldn't even stay powered on long enough to get the photographs off it. I finally found a computer with a card reader to get the recent photos from it.
It's a great point & shoot but if that's all you need there are cheaper models. It's the extra capabilities and settings that make this camera so preferable to use. So for a newbied that didn't know ISO from aperture I'd recommend a cheaper model. But for the experineced or intermediate user, this is a great camera with a lot of capability at a good price with only one con, that of the LCD poor image quality - it doesn't become ususable, but is annoying.
Shake detection works well, as does face detection etc.. Gives great results even with slow shutter speeds and low light conditions.
If we don't drop it on concrete again, I think this camera will serve us for a long time.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Good Low-Light Performance, good battery life
Cons: Poor image quality, lcd image quality is poor most of the time

Great Purchase BUT

Bought this camera.... looks like a GREAT choice and am very satiisfied with the pictures. I really like the size, fits in a pocket really well. Downside, I did not get "Camera User Guide" nor a camera case with the purchase. Bummer. Downloading the User Guide took 132 pages 90 minutes off my printer with now a small ream of paper. Small setback but come on.
Pros: easy to use, Nice features/settings, Bright LCD, excellent image quality
Cons: Complicated controls/menu

This is my second Digital Camera.
Like the fact it is has the pic modes to point and shoot different settings .
But to change some of the settings can be alittle difficult at times.
The Battery life is a little short but for everything the camera does its easy to replace the AA Batteries.
I had some pictures made and the picture quality was very very good .
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: Short battery life

Great Pictures bad instructions

I am pretty good with Photography and am very impressed with the quality of the pictures it takes. Real clear, and great clarity. I don't know why people are having such a hard time with it becasue it is pretty easy to use! The problem I have with it is that it takes a long time to take a picture. You can't take pictures one after one, can't process it that fast. You also have to prepare for the stabilazation because it doesn't always take the picure you want. Takes a long time in between pictues. The pictures are great though. I use a memory card so my pictures go on the computer very easily. I haven't taken any pictures on the internal memory so I am not sure why it is hard to get them off the camara. The instruction book is terrible, in fact that is what I am doing online right now. Trying to figure out all the features that it doesn't explain in the book.
Pros: easy to use, Simple controls/menu, Bright LCD, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Missing features/settings, Poor Low-Light Performance

Good little camera

This is my first Cannon and I am not disappointed! It was an impulse buy since it's not always easy to just grab my larger camera for simple snapshots around the house or out with friends. I wasn't looking to spend alot on a "pocket" camera (as I call them) but I also didn't want to buy something cheaply made either. A few friends have cannons & I saw they were good cameras. I especially like the indoor pics that I get. I have only had this camera for a month but am going to use it as much as possible. The controls and menus were nice and simple (didn't have a ton of submenus, which was nice), plus this is my 4th digital camera over the years. Need to get better batteries and wish it came with li-ion batteries. Overall, Very Nice!
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Short battery life, Heavy/Bulky
