This lens stays on my 1DSIII 95% of the time. I also have the 24L, 100L IS, 100-400L with 2X&1.4. Granted it is fairly heavy but I do hike Yosemite with it.

I highly recommend this Lens product. I bought it when it originally came out. I used it for several years and sold it to a friend, I recently bought another unit when I realized I had been missing having the particular versatility that only this heavy lens can offer.
I would recommend this to a friend!

The first time I picked this lens up I was surprised how heavy it was. Luckily for me, it's the only one I needed.
Pros: Superior build quality, Fast auto-focus, wide focal lengths, ultra versatile
Cons: heavy, drains battery
I would recommend this to a friend!

Trade off for convenience

I've been using this lens with my EOS 5D Mark III for a couple of months and am happy with the convenience of not having to switch lenses. At a third of the price, I would have considered it a good value for a utility lens I use whenever I feel I'm going to be in need of that kind of quick versatility. The images are consistently very soft, lacking even acceptable sharpness in most cases. It performs reasonably well, if you limit yourself to middle aperatures in the 8 to 11 range, while sticking to a focal length between 100 and 170mm. So much for the vaunted versatility. Over-priced and over-rated. The downside isn't the extra weight, it's the overall performance.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

PROs if you only want to bring one lens 28mm to 300 mm Quality built
CONs Heavy picture quality is not as good as the 70-200 Need to be at high aperture settings to get a good DOF
The cons are mitigated when you unexpectedly needed that 300mm with no time to spare and in the next moment you are needing the 28mm.
Pros: Superior build quality, Super-sharp images
Cons: Semi-sharp images
I would recommend this to a friend!

I purchase the lens to be used on a Canon 5D Mark IV to use on a cruise this summer. I am having a great time learning how to use its features. I like the feature where you can lock a lens position. It takes great photos in low light.
I would recommend this to a friend!
