My all in one

I was scared to get this glass before all the comments about the quality, many says that is not like a "L" class, i doubt between this one and the 70-200mm 2.8, which limits the range, i should get a 24-105mm to get the complete range, i took the risk and choose the 28-300mm, MOM, what a lens !!!
It is expensive but what else you can ask for a "L" lens with that huge range, is heavy but??? I think price and weight can be compare the with the good results.
I traveled to Peru, I'm taking food photography, portraits, night shots, etc without changing the lens and taking the risk to get dust inside. IS works perfect, no shake at all even hand holding it at 300mm 1/10 it was a sharp and clear image.
i carry a 100mm 2.8 IS and a 50mm 1.4 just in case but with my 28-300mm I have enough
I wish it could be a 2.8 but.... is too much to ask, probably in a near future

One of the better things I've done

Many of my fellow enthusiasts have the 100-400mm lens. I bought this lens before I knew what most others have. And I'm glad I did! This lens works perfectly with my 30D and my 5D Mark II. Especially on the 5D Mark II. This lens give you the best of both worlds. Wide angle and telephoto! I've had this lens for almost 3 yrs now and I wouldn't do without it. I now know the sweet spot is f/7.1 for the sharpest pictures this lens will give. Otherwise you do get a little softer focus with this lens but the versatility of this lens makes my other photography friends jealous. I have a super wide angle zoom and this lens and that's it! With my 5D Mark II and it's 21.1 MP it's like almost having a macro! I can't do without it. enough said.
Pros: Super-sharp images, Superior build quality, Fast auto-focus, still fast enough for those birds in flight!
Cons: just a little heavier than other lenses

My Favorite lens

For anyone who wants to shed your camera pack - this is the lens for you. For short trips I mount my camera on the tripod and I put a canon 500d close-up lens in my pocket. I have every scenario covered. I shoot outdoors - everything from frogs, deer, birds to waterfalls. This lens though expensive does it all. I shoot a cannon rebel xs and it does great.

The "one lens" lens

After spending the rather large chunk of money for this lens, I found that it was well worth it. The only warning is that it is a Very heavy and Very large lens. It is so versatile that now it is the only lens I use except for special occasions. A macro lens for very close shots, and a ultra wide lens for the wide shots. That's it. 3 lenses and you are done. It is Not tack sharp like some of the lenses. It is only Very sharp.
I love it!
Pros: Superior build quality, Fast auto-focus
Cons: Semi-sharp images

Versatile but heavy

It's an extremely versatile lens which is great while traveling and doing totally different kind of shots during the same time-span. I.e. visiting a town: close ups, portraits, buildings, panoramas; outdoor sports: close-ups, groups; nature: close-up, limited macro, landscape. The IS Image stabilizer will help also in lower light conditions. The push-pool zoom is first strange to handle but you soon find out how wonderful it is when you have a 'situation'.
When I travel I have this lens with an additional extreme wide (10-22mm). Be prepared to some: "whoa!" when you get the camera out of your bag.
This is unfortunately at the the expense of a real heavy weight and some reduced sharpness.
Pros: Superior build quality, Fast auto-focus, extremely versatile
Cons: Semi-sharp images

Best lens I've ever owned!!!!

This Lens is rugged, handsom, and most of all, highly functional. It is truly a do it all lens. Heavy?? Yes...but so is a german car....built to last! All the features work...and work well. Best stablized lens I have ever used. I love my Canon 28-300. I've owned for about 6 years now!! WOW! I do wish it was a 2.8 though....
Pros: great functionality. crisp quality photo's., great focusing lens!, image stabilization is outstanding!
Cons: wish it was a 2.8, it is heavy..

All ¨L¨ Lenses in One Package.

I have just bought my 28-300L and I think I'll will never find a better lens like this one. It is totally awesome, perfect match for my 7D. The image quality is superv. The autofocus is really-really-FAST. I was a little dissapointed using it at high ISO... it doesn't look too sharp as I expected to be an L lense of this price tag, but I will keep trying (maybe with a tripod.. I've just tried shooting handheld). For video it's a little difficult to handle the manual focus compared with other lenses (while handheld) but is not a big issue. The weight... well.. it's litterally like a bazooka, but you will get used to it.
This lens worth every cent. You have all the range covered with the outstanding ¨red ring¨ quality. (I will just add my superwhide angle for some special moments). ¨...Be prepared to some: "whoa!" when you get the camera out of your bag.¨ I totally agree that previous comment.
Pros: Fast auto-focus, Superior build quality, Super-sharp images
Cons: Semi-sharp images, difficult to manual focus for video shooting

Greta purchase for a type of work

I´m a stock photography shooter and I live out what my agencies is paying me monthly. I decided to buy this lens to reduce the number of them that I have to carry along when traveling around the world, but I abandoned it a bit because its weight,;however is a must lens for aerial photography. Now is the only lens that I carry on board of any Cessna or helicopter that hire to shoot stock. Beautiful focal lens range for the altitudes that I need in this kind of work and drastically reduces the amount of stuff that I need to bring on board where the space is scarce.
Pros: Super-sharp images, Superior build quality, Fast auto-focus, saves carrying extra lenses
Cons: needs to be used to the way you zoom in and out
