The best

I use this lens more then any other lens I own. Amazing lens. I shoot 80 percent of a wedding with this one lens. I do wish the tripod ring was more robust. I have had to replace mine and I am sending it in this week to be replaced again. I am really really hoping for a new version very soon.

One lens fits all!

Rented a few times, then finally bought it. My go-to workhorse lens I have on 95% of the time. If I had to pic one lens for the rest of my life, this is the one. Built like a tank and heavy, just love it!

Wonderful!

I absolutely love this lens! My old zoom lens was 75-300, so I'm always surprised how much I can get into the picture when I look through. I'm an aspiring professional and travel a lot. I recently took my first trip with this lens and though it's not discrete, and it's a bit heavy, it is SO worth it! I never have to change lenses anymore. And the pictures are amazingly sharp. I also just tried it out at the meteor shower last night and it worked wonders on the tripod.
Pros: sharp pictures, is is great
Cons: a bit heavy

Great lens for school sports events

I'm getting back into photography, so I'm an "advanced hobbyist" (below amateur level) who just made the jump from a crop sensor to a Canon full frame (EOS-1DS Mk III). This camera body is great for still subjects; however, when paired up with this EF 28-300mm, I gained an unexpectedly excellent ability to shoot track & field events and swim meets with excellent clarity.
The slide-action zoom took some getting used to, but now I'm wondering how I ever did without it. I use a monopod to address camera shake and the weight...the lens is heavier than it looks, and it's hard to understand what 1670 grams really is until you carry this lens. However, on a sturdy monopod, I can "lean into it" just a little and use my fingertips to swiftly move the lens barrel fore-aft as needed to get the zoom I want even with an athlete running straight at me. I don't know if I would be able to be as successful with a twist-barrel zoom.
In general, when it gets dark in the late evening, I have to change to a faster setup (faster lens and newer camera body), since I try to avoid using a flash. Still, this lens works well in a decently lit stadium, even with my older EOS-1DS (and the limited ISO range attendant to older cameras). Being able to quickly getting to the desired zoom is such a blessing when there is action to be captured, and again, the image clarity is surprising at both ends of its zoom range. Naturally, it's absolutely superb in the middle 80% of that range.
This is a keeper, and I'm finding that when the sun is out or if I have otherwise decent lighting indoors or out, this has become the favorite lens I am using most every since I acquired it, and I've only had it for a month. Can't wait to see what it will do when I can finally scrape together enough to get a newer full frame Canon body with a better ISO range for dark and dimly lit conditions.

I am not professional but have used the Canon EF'-28-300 f/3.5 an tamron. Have to say canon works better all the way. The movement faster pictures all around better to me. As I said not professional and the lens I used where a very good friends. His last comment to me was ,see why I buy .canon

Great "all-in-one"

Verified Purchase:Yes
I've had the 28-300 for almost a month. I wanted something that I could leave on my 5D4 so as not to miss an opportunity while walking/hiking. Many times I've had to choose between short/long telephoto and changing required diving into my backpack. This lens solves that while providing great image quality.
This lens, combined with my 5D4 is not a light combination, however. I expected that when looking at the specs. While that could seem a detraction, it prevents having two cameras out and ready.

Incredible lens! I bought it about 2 months ago, and I don't think I've taken it off even once. Great range! Incredible images. True, a little on the heavy side, but well worth the weight.
