Great Product but Installation frustration

We love how the hood and associated pieces came packed. Good instructions except this is for 8 ft ceiling height minimum. Tried calling for support and get into phone world. We have 55 inches from stove top to ceiling. We are short 5 inches. Minimum space from stove to hood is 24 inches. Recommended hood to ceiling is min 36. Can we go up into the ceiling/attic with the duct work. Using recirculating installation. Please help.
