Gorgeous picture, easy set-up, nice looking cabinet, and very useable features and controls. Sound is pretty good, but its a TV so my surround sound system will handle the heavy movie sound tracks. Did side-by-side comparison with Sony and LG models and the beautiful picture sold us.

LCD vs. Plasma

I'm giving this TV a 5 star rating because it performs very well and is a great TV overall. This was the preferred set for my wife and son (10 yr. old) although my choice would have been the Plasma screen TV's (Panasonic). Needless to say, they won out and we went with the LCD. Like I stated, it's a very nice set and we have had no problems. However, for those who are picky about quality, you might want to read this. The LCD picture is quite a bit more saturated and contrasty than the Plasma. This makes the plasma have more details and tonal separation in the shadow areas. Unfortunately, that makes the highlights look dingy compared to the LCD (that's what they didn't like). To me the colors are too punchy on an LCD and need to be reigned in. There is another drawback to LCD and LED which even they did not like. For some reason, when the camera is moving (on a dolly) or panning and zooming at the same time, the movie looks like a video instead of like film. This even happens on movies from the 40's. I find this very distracting and not appealing. Some people don't notice it, but when I point it out, almost everyone does. Check it out when you go to the store. It does not seem to happen as much or at all on a Plasma screen. Happy viewing.

Auto dimming of picture cannot be disabled

On dark scenes the picture dims to preserve the black level, however this pulls down the white level as well. This "feature" cannot be disabled and is very distracting.

Really Stunning

Brought home this baby a few days ago and we are simply overwhelmed with the picture. The perfect colors, precise details, stunning contrast... in short, just perfect. The only adjustment we made was to the sound, setting it on "Movie" quality, which brought out a stronger bass. The perfection is almost surreal. Every once in a while, we just look at each other with a big smile on our face. We are very happy with this addition to our home and look forward to many years of viewing pleasure.

Excellent TV, except one thing

This is a great TV but could use one minor improvement. I use it in slide presentations where I need to advance one slide at a time to fit with the explanations. This requires manual mode but every time you advance a slide in manual mode the slide information overlays the slide for the first 4 seconds. This is very disruptive to a smooth presentation. I suggest Samsung make available a software upgrade to opt out of the slide info overlay.

I'm thoroughly pleased with the set, though I haven't explored all of its features yet,
Menus for adjusting performance details are easy to navigate.
Great picture, which I adjust from standard (for nighttime viewing) to dynamic (for daytime viewing in the brightly sunlit room). Viewing angle is also pretty wide, I'm happy to report.
Sound from ts own speakers is subpar, but I'm using external speakers, so that drawback is overcome
Very useful is its caability to swivel on its stand 20 degrees in each direction (for a total of 40 degrees), meaning I almost never have to move the rolling cart on which it sits.
