Excellent product with some inconsistencies

The installation takes some doing but with a tech consultant we got it done...well worth the effort. Two issues: one is the awful customer service we received when we were trying to install it, so surprising and no help, and secondly, the remote is so inconsistent with the quality of the product. It's the worst remote we've used! Overall quality of course continues remarkable but these other issues are annoyances that could turn customers off.
Pros: Performance, easy to use, Features/Settings, Quality, the remote!, customer service

I picked this LG model because I was looking for a Bluray player with Wireless Connectivity (and Netflix Streaming). This LG model was top rated at CNET and Consumer reports. I was not disappointed at all. The player does all that it claims to do. Bluray and DVD playback is excellent. I have used it for Netflix and Youtube streaming. I have also used it to fetch pictures stored on a home computer.
Complaints include the remote which appears cheap and works only if you are directly pointing it towards the player.
I have had this blu ray since November 2009, and have yet been able to watch a movie through without it freezing half way through. I have checked several times for the latest updates and updated on a regular basis. The movies we watch always freeze at least once while watching and it takes FOREVER to go through the process of getting it back, because it's frozen. We watch blu rays and dvd's on this player, the picture is good and clear it is just a hastle to watch one and extremely frustrating (especially with a toddler who doesn't understand what happened to his show and wants it back now!)
Pros: Style/Design, easy to use, Features/Settings
Cons: performance
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Superb!

I bought this player primary to play movies from Netflix. I bought this unit because of the high quailty picture reproduction with softer edges than the BD370. I am very impressed. My old DVDs looks awesome on this player, and I had an upconvert before. The upconversion on standard home videos is also amasing. And the picture quaility from netiflix superb! I am very please with this products ease of use, speed, and performacne. I have used many video devices and this one works like it should. And it automatically checks for updates which I think is amazing. You don't have to jump through hoops to get firmware updates, it takes about 2 minutes and it is done.
I only wish I could play .mkv files over the network, instead of copying them to a USB thumb drive.
Pros: Quality, Features/Settings, easy to use, Performance, Style/Design

Good with some major flaws

This is a great player with satisfactory features for the most part. It is a shame that product priced at this level has some serious flaws, most of which can easily be corrected through software update. I will list those shortcomings here. 1. I was hoping that this unit would become my main media player in the house but to my surprise song names in My Media are listed by track name alphabetically and not track number. This makes this function absolutely useless. Songs are not even sorted by the filename as this could have been a workaround to sort tracks in correct order. Rather song names come from MP3 ID tags. It just doesn't make any sense why LG decided to sort songs in alphabetical order. It defies any logic. If you want to listen to an album you are stuck with listening in alphabetical order. Perhaps this should be part of preferences/setup to sort by: track number/filename/alphabetically with track number sorting being default. I would happily trade the relatively useless "Skin" preferences in setup for this feature.
2. Remote control response time and reception is horrible. You have to work very hard and point the remote at a specific angle and direction to make it respond. There is little to no tolerance.
3. Blu Ray disk navigation is very awkward. We just bought Up (Pixar) DVD and every time I tried to go back to disk main menu I had to rewatch the intro trailers. There is no way to go back up one level.
4. Cannot detect iTunes shares. If you have all your library in iTunes, your only option is to add the entire library to Windows Media Player share.
Pros: Quality, Performance, Style/Design
Cons: Features/Settings, Difficult to use

My LG BD-390 is able to connect to the internet just fine and I can watch YouTube videos. However, I cannot connect to the Netflix servcie and the back and forth finger pointing between LG and Netflix is endless. I love the concept of watching HD videos on demand but I am going to trash my BD-390 and buy something else because the pain is just not worth it.
Pros: Style/Design
Cons: Difficult to use

I was undecided between the PS3 and a stand alone Blu ray player when I saw the BD390. It's so easy to use and connect and the quality is extraordinary. I think I made a great purchase! I have absolutely no complains!!
