BD390

We purchased this unit a little over a week ago and have been very happy with it's performance. The biggest problem we've had has been the wireless capabilities. After purchasing a new wireless router (which offered download speeds of over 6 MB) specifically to use for this unit and relocating it within 8 feet of the unit we had full bars on the signal and yet still had lots of buffering when trying to download videos. After calling both Netflix and our ISP we decided to hardwire the unit. After hardwiring the unit performed beautifully. So if you purchase the BD390 I strongly suggest hardwiring over wireless operation.
Pros: Quality, easy to use, Style/Design
Cons: Features/Settings

Right out of the box this blu-ray player was easy to use and very intuitive regarding the setup. The playback quality is excellent and the instant streaming is surprisingly crisp. We love all of the features! This was a great purchase!

Flawless Installation & Performance
on February 6, 2010

I needed a wireless streaming Blu Ray DVD player since my wireless router was located in another part of the house about 50 feet away from the BD-390.
The installation to my 1080I i/p Plasma TV was straightforward, complete plug and play. Wireless setup consisted of entering the network security key into the BD-390, establishing connectivity, downloading new firmware and running Netflix and YouTube, again true plug and play.
Blu Ray disk performance is beautiful, the Plasma HDTV that I have has been considered the reference standard by the trade journals for the previous two years and the image from the BD-390 met or exceeded all of my expectations.
One point I must make is that my router and computers are all less then six months old and meet all curent wireless standards. The router is a Dual Band N router and download speeds from my ISP are 63 Mbps, the BD-390 handles the speed just fine. Latency on download of streaming video on the BDF-390 is extremely fast with no cache interrupts during playback.
The design of the BD-390 is sleek and the remote is intutive. The only suggestion I have is to reverse the position of the disk tray and power buttons. They seem a bit counterintutive but easy enough to get used too.
LG has done a fine job making this unit easy to use and a pleasure to view. I think most consumers will be pleased. The BD-390 is a great value!

Excellent Perfomer But A Hitch

The LD BD390 is a great Blu-Ray player and the wi-fi connection works very well. Set-up was challenging, however, and required extensive guidance from customer support to get the unit to connect with my wi-fi router. Netflix access by wireless is superb. The other services are expensive and limited. Also, despite many inquires from many customers, LG is silent on the question of whether Pandora and/or other music services will be added to the BD390...Pandora is available on higher end LG Blu-Ray players. Before purchasing this unit, I would message LG to see if Pandora or another musice service will be included in the BD390. If not, I would wait to another similar player comes along offering music service.

It's a shame this product has been discontinued. I think it was more than expected for the price. The remote is a little cheesy, but overall doesn't affect the performance of the product.

Software Updates on BD390?
on April 26, 2010

1st of all.. I'm very happy with my decision to purchase the BD390.... but no sooner than when I purchased my BD390, the BD570 model comes out.. which is pretty much the same machine, minus the difference in Live Streaming capabilities. Both have Netflix, VUDU, YouTube, and Roxio CinemaN-ow. But... the BD570 also has Pandora, Picasa and AccuWeather... I have gotten automatic driver updates to my BD390 several times, but why can't they make a machine smart enough to receive software updates as well, so the owners of the BD390 can experience all of the Live Streaming capabilities of the BD570? Only other difference I seen was BD570 doesn’t have capability for analog 7:1… but who cares, since everything is digital now anyway.
Pros: Performance, Style/Design, easy to use, Features/Settings, Quality
Cons: lack of software updates (live streaming)

I love this player. It is great if you store movies or music on your computer. Great for streaming movies from netflix and great bluray player.
Im hoping they add hulu streaming sometime in the future and that would make it perfect

Great Quality for the Money

I bought this product because of the independent reviews and I have not been disappointed. I find myself using the streaming video from Netflixs and Vudu a lot more than I thought I would. Which brings me to my only con with this player. I bought this player only about 3 months before the new models came out which have a few more apps like pandora radio and others. I wish more apps could be added to BD390 through firmware updates.
Pros: Performance, easy to use, Quality
Cons: more apps thru firmare updates
