Awesome Performance

The Pixma MX860 is excellent in almost every area, except for the price of the ink cartridges. As far as performance and ease of use, it is superior to anything it may be compared to. Compatibility with computer operating systems is second to none, and extremely easy to find on the Canon website. It is self explanatory in all functions, and very easy to understand. It has the often forgotten and typically confusing card reader in multiple size categories, and blows away the competition with its ease of use and ability for options. You may go broke on the ink cartridges, but you cannot ask for a better multi-function machine. Top notch!
Pros: reliable, Compact Design, Easy Setup, durable, Lightweight/Portable, Sharp Tones & Colors, fast print speed, easy to use
Cons: High Ink Consumption, cost of ink cartridges

One major problem
on February 24, 2011

I got this printer for a great deal -- less than $100. It has great options. The print quality is so so. However, the biggest problem is that everything worked fine when I bought this printer 6 months ago, but now the scan function no longer works. Very disappointing!!
Pros: Easy Setup, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: Large Footprint, scan function stopped after 6 mos

I wish it would still work...

I bought it 1.5years ago as my first all-in-one, being experienced with regular inkjet printers... still have 4 of them and that's only brand I will use for the inkjets... At the first glance, everything was going perfect, quick, lots of functions, printer had more functions than I would ever need... until one day it stopped feeding paper with a loud clicking inside...
Having previous experience with fixing printers I didn't wait long to recycle my MX860... and trade it in for MX870...
My recommendations? Excellent piece of equipment, but if you buy it, BUY SUPPLEMENTAL INSURANCE to get it fixed or replaced since my problem is all over forums as a common one...
Pros: Compact Design, Easy Setup, Sharp Tones & Colors, easy to use
Cons: unreliable, Flimsy Construction

Very satisfied

Overall, I am very happy with this printer and the numerous functions it is capable of. So far, I have had no issues. There are, however, a few minor things I'd like to see change: 1) the size - this printer is rather large compared to similar models; 2) the cartridges do not last very long at all. And if one runs out, you can't print - even if its a color cartridge and you're printing in grayscale; and 3) needed technical assistance to set up - there are some confusing steps (at least to me) and I had difficulty getting all functions to work properly without technical support. Still would recommend.
Pros: reliable, durable, Sharp Tones & Colors, easy to use
Cons: Heavy/Bulky, Difficult Setup, High Ink Consumption

Solid performing printer for the price

This printer has good print quality and is fairly quick. The wireless scanning utility is ok and can use a little better features and documentation. I would buy it if I were still looking but it has been 2 years and it has never jammed or failed yet (yes I clean it cover it when not in use). Wireless setup is not for a person with a low tech threshold.
Pros: reliable, fast print speed, easy to use
Cons: Difficult Setup

Great wireless printer

I purchased this printer a few years ago for my MacBook. I had no trouble getting it set up to the wireless network. Once I had it on my network, it was easy to set up my other Mac's. When I switched wireless routers, I had to add it to the new network but had a little trouble on the new network. I called Canon and they were very helpful in getting me up and running again. I recently bought a new MacBook Pro and I was able to set up both the printer and scanner to perform wirelessly on my MBP. The driver downloads on the Canon support site are very easy to find and download.

Overall a great printer

Used this printer for about seven years and was comletely happy with it. Got great picture prints. I'm not a pro, but I liked the pints that I got. Made all of my greeting cards. Printed a lot of special projects, such as menues, name tags, etc, and found the printer very easy to use.
The only down sides were the original cost, which was about average at the time of purchase, and ink sonsumption. Had the printer not been destroyed by lightening, I'd still be using it.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, durable, High Quality Output, fast print speed, easy to use
Cons: Large Footprint, High Ink Consumption

Excellent, Reliable Home Printer

I've been delighted with this printer! Almost never jams, high quality photo printing, as well as document printing. As with most inkjet printers, the ink is expensive, but that's my only gripe. Wireless connection is remarkably easy to set up, and has proven very reliable. I've been using the scanner heavily, and it works very well, even with automatic feed and odd sized documents. We have several computers and laptops scattered around the house - and the wireless connection works well for all.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, durable, High Quality Output, easy to use
Cons: expensive ink
