Great Machine AFTER setup

My purchase of the MX860 was an upgrade from the MX850 in order to get wireless capability. The quality of the output documents/photos is superb. This machine will do all of the document manipulation that a dedicated office printer does for hundreds of dollars more. The scan quality of color photos is unbelievably good.
Setting the machine up for wireless printing is the pits. The installation manual is the worst that I have ever seen from Canon and one of the worst that I ever encountered anywhere. Having said that, Canon's US based tech support was absolutely wonderful in their patient and professional assistance.
The software (except for installation) supplied with the machine all worked excellently. The installation software that was supplied with the machine did not support the Vista 64 bit operating system and it had to be downloaded from Canon's tech support website.
It is significantly slower getting the first page (or photo) output using wireless printing vs using a wired network, but this seems to be normal with all wireless printers.
Ink usage is good, but you have to override the machine's system of indicating the the ink tank contents in order to get all of the ink from the cartridges, otherwise you will lose an estimated 20 to 25% of the ink in the cartridges.
I feel that the build quality of the machine is actually a little better than the MX850 and it has a few design tweaks that make it more user friendly.
Overall, it is a wonderful machine and I strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a full featured multi-function office machine that will also print Lab grade photo's.
Pros: does it all superbly, great document manipulation features
Cons: problematic wireless setup, slow first page output
I would recommend this to a friend!

Excellent Value and Features

Easy to set up, both connected and wireless; all functions work as advertised and expected, ink usage not excessive (I don't use it to print photos), wonderful print quality for this device niche. Doesn't feel cheaply made like many competitive products. I would certainly recommend it for home and small office use.
Pros: great print quality, well constructed

I have been a long-time cannon user/advocate. Very dissappointed with Pixma MX860. Bulky, heavy, flimsy paper feeds. Issues with run out of ink and cant use other functions, and now I have some sort of belt/gearing/clicking issue. Its not like we abuse or overuse this device. Cant reccomend to anyone.
Cons: cheap built

Great printer so far. Bought two, one for home and office. Both are working perfectly. Love the wireless feature. Used fax feature at home with ease. Set up was a bit tricky for me. Phone support was very helpfull!
Pros: reliable, fast print speed, easy to use
Cons: Large Footprint, Heavy/Bulky

Disappointing

I've had the Pixma 860 for over a year. The printer function initially worked fine. I was satisfied with both the speed and the quality of text and photos. But there are other problems with this machine that are very annoying:
1) Something about the machine interferes with my land-line telephone. If the printer is on, callers are unable to get through. They tell me that they get a "fax" sound, even though I have the fax set to manual. (I rarely use the fax.) So I'm limited to printing at times when I'm unlikely to get phone calls.
2) It goes through ink very fast, and replacement cartridges are very expensive.
3) To try to save some money, I purchased an ink refill kit that was made specifically for Canon Pixma. I also purchased a chip resetter. When I refilled the black cartridge the first time, it worked fine. But refilling the color cartridges and refilling the black cartridge the second time gave me problems. The Pixma wouldn't recognize the cartridges. I had to fiddle with the machine for over an hour to get it to recognize them. And then it suddenly stopped recognizing two of the cartridges part way through a print job.
4) All of a sudden, the paper feeder from the cartridge has stopped working. Paper feeds part way, then simply stops. I get an "out of paper" error message. I've been unable to resolve this.
5) Huge footprint.
I've owned several printers over the years and have never had nearly the problems that I'm having with the Pixma. This is my first--and last--Canon printer. As soon as I can afford to replace it, I will buy something else.
Pros: fast print speed
Cons: Difficult to use, Large Footprint, Heavy/Bulky, Difficult Setup, High Ink Consumption, unreliable
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

WORST purchase on a printer - EVER

STOP & do NOT BUY this printer. This printer takes an EXTREMELY long time to print. It also uses photo ink cartridges to print text documents & is very expensive to operate - even when you tell it to print fast & in grayscale - it is still using my PHOTO ink cartridges. I am very disappointed with this all-in-one wireless. I would love to get my money back & get a different all-in-one wireless.
Cons: Slow Print Speed, Large Footprint, Heavy/Bulky, High Ink Consumption, do yourself a favor & not buy this printer

Bought our mx860 almost a year ago and have had no problems with it. Set up was a breeze, not one paper jam, no errors, nothing negative. It is fast and the picture quality is amazing. We love the wireless feature. My wife can print from her laptop without having to hook anything up. Great printer for the money.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, Sharp Tones & Colors, fast print speed, easy to use
Cons: Large Footprint

Purchased online last Tuesday and printer was delivered on Thursday am! Had it set up for all but faxing in one day's use and everything working as proposed in two days (use). Other than the size for my limited shelf in my office Armoir, I am quite impressed with this printer and its performance. A great all-in-one printer and a great value.
Pros: quiet operation, great faxing, great print quality
Cons: size, instructions are clear just very detailed
I would recommend this to a friend!
