I researched this printer purchase extensively. I loved the features and just about everything about this machine. I had to print out a letter of receipt and have the recipients mail the letter signed back to me. I printed the letters, folded and stuffed them in envelopes days later (the ink was dry). When I received the letters back from the people who had to sign them, I was so embarassed. The ink transferred to the folded side of the page and was a smudgy mess. It looked very unprofessional and this was a legal issue. I think the printer has many good points, but the ink is a deal breaker. If the only use was printing out coupons that would be ok. If you need to print things that will make a reflection on you like a resume or report, you will be disappointed.
Pros: Easy Setup, easy to use
Cons: ink transfers
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Good printer overall; its a bear to install and I'm quite experienced. Network installation/reinstallation is a pain in that you have to plug each computer you want to use this machine into the printer with a USB cable. When I changed my LAN I had to do a complete reinstall of software just to change the WAP information.
Uses ink likes its free and it's definietly not free
Cons: Large Footprint, Difficult Setup, High Ink Consumption

SO disappointed

I had high hopes for this all-in-one, given Canon's great reputation. First I noticed that it can't scan photos at a higher than 600 dpi. The printer also takes a really long time to process the print command - as long as 5 minutes for a black and white copy. Then, after just a few copies, I noticed the low ink warning. I ignored it, since the quality of black and white printing remained excellent. I assumed the message was an error. Then the printer stopped working completely, giving me the message that the larger black ink tank was empty. However, the copy befor this message was perfect and dark, if VERY slowly delivered.
Cons: Slow Print Speed, High Ink Consumption, low scanning dpi for photos, empty ink tank disables entire machine

It is far easier to send photos out to print. I can't locate the manual. I can't even figure out how to print a simple envelope this machine is so complicated. I should have stuck with a simple model.

Poor Owners Manual
on February 27, 2010

I bought the scanner because of the high resolution, to scan nautical charts and maps to print onto weather resistant paper. But the owners manual is incomplete. It does not tell the user how to save the image to a PC - all the way. There is no information on where to save it and how to select the folder. It appears the manual writers have never used the product or they would notice that there are steps missing.
Cons: Difficult to use

absolute junk

This bulky unit loads paper from a tray that skids along the top of your work station, when loading paper. I have had repeated problems with it loading paper for printing from the cassette. In addition, the color ink cartridge gauge shows consumption, even when printing only black and white documents. I am tremendously disappointed with this product.
Cons: Large Footprint, Heavy/Bulky, Difficult to use, High Ink Consumption, unreliable

Poor setup instructions

The wireless setup instructions were useless. Very difficult to configure for wireless operation. Finally got the printer working wirelessly after hours of struggle, but not the scanner. Tons of included software, but I couldn't make it work, so I just have a very simple printer.
Cons: Difficult Setup
