All functions on this device STOP FUNCTIONING when one ink cartridge is empty. ALL FUNCTIONS ON THIS DEVICE ARE DISABLED WHEN INK IS EMPTY. That means if you run out of black ink you cannot print in color, you cannot scan, you cannot fax. WARNING!!!

Good unit with reservations

Haven't really used the unit that much, but it seems well built. I really just wanted to mention this:
We purchased this for a home office, and I was caught a bit off guard by the fact that it is not all ports active. If you want to use it in a network environment, you have to choose between wired LAN or WiFi. Very 80's from a technology standpoint. Shame that it is not smart enough to run all ports simultaneously without having to choose the LAN interface at the printer.
Network setup is non-intuitive for anyone that doesn't already have some network knowledge. But not much harder to get up and running than any other print server out there. The manual was an interesting approach to documentation. Didn't use it.

I am Happy With It!

I have had the Pixma MX 860 for about a month now. Overall, I am happy with the unit. It is big and heavy, but it does a lot. I had a Canon Multipass F80 and this is pretty much the same. This unit was cheaper than the F80 which
lasted for 5 years. I love all of Canon's products. I have no complaints. It was intimidating firing it up for the first time but if you follow instructions and pay attention to details it was fine. My ink usage is fine. There is no other machine that I would rather have.

Happy camper

I set this up myself to copy and fax, but then quailed at the directions for connecting to a network. Jason at Canon tech support was terrific, walked me through the rest of the setup in probably less than 10 minutes (it was actually easier than the directions made it seem), made sure I knew how to use the scanner, and I've been off and running. Great copies, super easy to scan and fax, printing is a breeze. I haven't had this long, but at this point even if it broke tomorrow I'd probably get another one, the tech support is so good. (The only reason I didn't rate it a 5 for performance is because I haven't printed any photos yet; otherwise it's been perfect.)

Flexible Functions

This all-in-one is full of functionality. Set up was relatively easy. Scans, copies, faxes etc. are all crystal clear and this machine has all the bells and whistles that you would use to manipulate your images. By far my favorite feature of this machine is the automatic document feeder. This feature helps anyone using it to be so much more efficient and I have rarely seen it in a all-in-one at this price point. My only complaint, as with all other ink jet all-in-ones that I have used, is the amount of ink used and the cost of replacement ink.
Pros: reliable, Compact Design, durable, Lightweight/Portable, Sharp Tones & Colors, fast print speed, easy to use, features
Cons: High Ink Consumption

Stay away from this

A real piece of garbage! Nothing about this thing to like. Directions are worthless, connectint to wireless network is a joke. Now the dran thing has stopped printing colors. I have done all their head cleaning tricks and the printing has gotten worse. Of course it is out of warranty, so taking it to be fixed would cost more the just replacing the junk. Bright side is, I get to replace this piece of junk. Good bye Canon.
