Great with one GIANT caveat

Setting this up to an Apple Airport Extreme with Snow Leopard requires a lot of patience. Might get better as more s'wares are written but expect some serious hair pulling & a wasted day.
Other than that very happy with the machine and its abilities.
Pros: easy to use
Cons: Large Footprint, Difficult Setup

The wireless setup is very easy if you look at the video tutorial for this product before opening the box. If you watch the video you'll see a step by step approach to setting up a wireless network. With that video this setup was very easy.------------
The printer is very heavy. Positive I suppose as the scanner is very fast and nice. I miss my IP 3000 fast text printouts but haven't used this much. copies very fast.----------------
The software is far and away the best on the market. scanning to pc files is very simple and well put together on the pc screen.--------------
I'm afraid my ink bill will skyrocket but haven't tested as the cartridges are very small compared to my old ip3000.------------
Conclusion: An easy setup with a nice sturdy machine with all the bells and whistles that might jack up my ink bill.
Pros: Easy Setup, durable, fast print speed, easy to use
Cons: High Ink Consumption
I would recommend this to a friend!

Slow

Annoyingly slow to start to print pages. Save your money & buy a cheaper model.
Buyer beware: When they advertise pages per minute, they must not count the initial time it takes for the printer to think about printing your page. I've had much, much quicker responses with far cheaper printers.
Pros: reliable, Sharp Tones & Colors
Cons: Slow Print Speed, Large Footprint, Heavy/Bulky, Difficult Setup, High Ink Consumption
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Can't print B&W if color cartridge empty
on March 13, 2011
Posted by: regularguy
I would like this printer and recommend it, but for the fact that if you want to print b&w and one of your color cartridges is out, you CAN'T. Lame, lame, lame, especially if you hardly ever need to print color......like most documents from Word for example.
Cons: High Ink Consumption
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great, Except For Faxing
on July 31, 2009

This printer will do it all - just read all the other reviews.
The two negatives I've found with this unit is that is does not come with a proper instruction manual. It comes with an Easy Setup Guide that has you flipping back and forth through it like a create-your-own-ending children's book. After setting it up you better bookmark this Support page because you'll need to use the FAQ frequently.
Second, and most important to me is it's horrible at faxing. I cannot get it to properly work with a telephone answering machine. No matter what it eventually picks up every single phone call even when it's set to Telephone mode (delays itself before picking up to allow a person to answer the phone). The problem is that both the answering machine AND multifunction unit want to handle the call. It needs to be designed to answer a call and if it's not a fax tone put it back on the hook so the answering machine will get it. For whatever reason Canon overlooked this feature. There's just no way to get it work with an answering machine no matter what you may find by digging through the FAQ.
Cons: Difficult Setup, doesn't work with answering machines
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Slightly better than average product

For the most part this so called upgrade from the MX850 is not really better. Everything about it is quite average. It is noisy and the set up was not all that easy even though I have set up Canon Multifunction Printers before. I do not understand why Canon makes the casette paper holder the default holder for all printing, except for photo paper. And trying to change that setting was really frustrating. I finally called tech support and even she had to look it up and she took a few minutes to find it. Just seems silly to me. The set up process ought to give you the choice. I don't find the new inks any better. But I need a multifunction printer and I suppose this printer will do as well as any other. The Canon Loyalty Program is a plus.
Pros: Compact Design, easy to use, canon loyalty program, customer support is in the us.
Cons: Difficult Setup, difficult manual
