I was really liking the MS860 until one cartridge ran out of ink. Scanning and faxing, even to a flash drive, cannot be done until I replace the cartridge. Very disappointing design fail.

Setup is a breeze

I am a long time computer user who has limited experience using wirless products and often setup of a new device has always been a stress filled - time consuming pain in my patience.
I finally upgraded from my Cannon MP510 to wireless and got the MX860 printer. I took a whole day off work so as to set this up anticipating hours on the phone with support. I must add here that I have a Linksys WRT610N router. The set up of the printer was a breeze. I followed the directions in the book and poped in the CD and then followed the on line directions and within minutes my printer was talking with my computer, wirelessly and printing away. WOOPY!
I next went to my wireless notebook and detected the printer. Installing the drivers was, again, a breeze as Vista went to the internet and downloaded and installed them. Next I went to a document and said print and WOW, it worked.
Thank you Cannon for an absolutely painless system and a wonderful product. You have delivered again...
Pros: durable, Easy Setup, easy to use, fast print speed, Low Ink Consumption, reliable, Sharp Tones & Colors
Cons: Large Footprint

I did not expect such great quality and performance for the price. The installation did not go well, because I naively thought I could set up communication with Airport with the usual plug-and-play. Then I read the directions! Once the machine and my network talked to each other privately over USB, then it went like lightning. I replaced an old Agfa scanner, and the speed and resolution is mind boggling. What used to take a minute or two now is accomplished in 5 seconds. OCR is quite accurate, color printing is superb and fast, and the fax works.
Pros: durable, Easy Setup, easy to use, fast print speed, Low Ink Consumption, reliable, Sharp Tones & Colors
Cons: Heavy/Bulky

Absolutely Fantastic All Rounder !

I purchased the Canon MX860 for our busy SOHO. The overall decision was derived from my past exeprience with Canon printers - namely the iP4200. We have a busy schedule for our MFP, which encompasses A4 photo-printing, faxing, copying, scanning and regular document printing - we make full use of it's main functions, including PDF doc's.
Being one for researching a product prior to purchase, I found the MX860 a great 'all-rounder' and very competitive on pricing for replacement consumables - where as Canon's major competitors in the MFP range (who shall remain nameless!) heavilly promote their efficient ink usage, which is in stark contrast to the actual truth - I found Canon's MX860 to have VERY efficient ink usage!
My ONLY dismay with our MX860, really, was the use of a 'print-head' - rather than having the heads built into the individual ink tanks. I also feel that (...as per the first reviewer: Tom - April 30, 2009) the 'hiding' of the serial number was a little weird and combersome when registering the product.
Set-up was relatively easy. The quick start guide was straight forward and easy to get through. I have not yet used the printer's own built-in wireless networking, as I already have a software based printer sharing facility installed amongst my home networking componentry.
The automated duplex printing, combined with the ADF is quick, efficient and pretty much awesome.
From my own perspective, the only REAL downside I can really report, is that this model MFP does not have a CD/DVD printing capability, (such as the iP4200) which quite simply would have made the MX860 "THE IDEAL (!)" and "COMPLETE" and "ONLY" printer to buy!
Other than that, I personally recommend this printer, whole-heartedly, to anyone considering purchasing it! You will certainly get your money's worth out of it.
Pros: durable, Easy Setup, easy to use, fast print speed, Low Ink Consumption, reliable, Sharp Tones & Colors, best canon deisgn yet, adf auto duplexing, software suite incl., ink tanks incl. in purchase!, fantastic photo's, good $'s on ink replacement, beats their competition - hands down!
Cons: Large Footprint

This fit all of my needs in an all-in-one.

I was looking for a printer that was capable of duplex printing and document scanning. Wireless was a plus but not an absolute need. This printer fit all my needs and seemed to be just perfect.
Since getting it I have been blown away by the print quality, scan quality and just overall experience!
My only issue with the printer was the wireless setup that got me stuck for a while trying to figure out the WPS push button setup. I have an older router and this tripped me up. I wish the info for setting up the printer on the wireless network using the included software and a usb cable(one time use) was printed before the WPS(push button) setup in the manual. So in reality I have no issue with the printer at all, just the documentation but this will likly not effect most users.
This is a great All-In-One printer!!!
Pros: reliable, durable, Low Ink Consumption, Sharp Tones & Colors, fast print speed, easy to use, wireless, duplex printing and doc scanning, resolution both printing and scanning

Very Disappointing.

The print head is of poor design, clogs frequently. This printer drinks ink like an ink-a-holic, and the cartridges are expensive. Ours is 2.5 years old and I can no longer make it print after several deep cleanings. All it will do now is throw itself into endless self-cleaning cycles-- "clickety click, clickety-click" over and over. It was overpriced, needlessly complicated, and it's not heavy enough to become a good boat anchor. I have made my last Canon mistake, will never purchase another Canon product for fear of the same disappointment.
Cons: Difficult to use, Slow Print Speed, Large Footprint, Difficult Setup, Low Quality Output, unreliable, lost in endless self-cleaning cycles.
