I love this multi-function device but do wish it would come packaged with some really good PC-to-printer software.
Pros: reliable, durable, Low Ink Consumption, fast print speed, easy to use
Cons: Difficult Setup

My Canon Pixma MX860 is a workhorse. Unfortunately, duplex printing results in the flip side being upside down. I need to do duplex printing and this is a major disappointment. I have to print two pages and staple them together when both sides should be right side up. Perhaps Canon is aware of this and has a fix for it. The other complaint I have is that the scanner is an under-performer. The maximum resolution is 600 dpi. Scanning is something that I also need to do. I'm happy with how durable and reliable it is, but I can't recommend this printer because of its duplex printing and scanning performance.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, durable, easy to use
Cons: High Ink Consumption

Great full featured printer

I've used this printer for about two years now and I'm still thrilled with it. I used to shy away from 'multi-function' printers, but this one has made me change my mind. I've used it for higher quantity brochure-type duplex printing and it's held up. I've used it both wired and wireless (both easy to set up).
The only feature I am yet to use is fax. All other features (copy, scan, print) have worked like a little nerdy dream for me.
Downsides: 1. Slower printing times - This doesn't bother me much because I'm a patient guy. 2. Head cleaning - The printer cleans it's own heads after you tell it to print. So if you're trying to print directions before you walk out the door give yourself some time. A programmable cleaning schedule would be nice.
Pros: Easy Setup, easy to use, duplex printing
Cons: Slow Print Speed, Heavy/Bulky

The MX860 is the third Canon printed I have owned, All of those printer/FAX machines have operated flawlessly over the years. The quality of picture printing has been great. The only problem I have had has been with Windows 7 compatibility and that was remedied with new drivers provided by Canon.
Pros: reliable, Sharp Tones & Colors, easy to use, printing features

Purchased this printer after extensive research and reviews and found to be reliable after a year so far. I had no problems setting up even as wireless and hard wire combination in my system. I have a 4 year old grandson thinking his a big person that needs to do printing work, he gets the job done just fine. I have scanned and printed pictures with satisfactory results, the software I find easy to use and differently like the save to PDF file format. I would surely recommend this printer to friends.

Lots of good and bad

When it is ready to print the first page after it starts up, took it 2 minutes and 40 seconds to print the first page. It goes through a whole lot of gyrations getting ready to print. Never had a printer take so long to print. After that, it is fairly normal. Getting it set to wireless mode took forever and very confusing. Like the software, with the ability to preview the first print page Settings have some nice features for printing. Like the document feeder. And ability to send documents as a PDF file. Need to really go through heck trying to figure out how to send the PDF document in compressed format so it does not take a huge size file.
Pros: excellent phone support, nice features and software
Cons: 1st page takes way too long to print., wireless needs to be less complicated to set up.

This printer does more than I’ll ever need for the home. This is more like a small business or home office printer.
The print function works smooth and fast enough for my household needs. I like that it is able to do double-sided printing. This saves on the paper.
The scanner works great and will work long periods with no problem. I had twenty years of tax returns and I scanned them all in a single run and never had a glitch.
The reason I purchased this was for the photo capacity. It makes outstanding photos. I started in hobby photography with film and a darkroom in the basement making my own color prints.
When I went digital I was looking for a printer that could make quality prints. I might be able to do better but I don’t know what it would be in this price range. With a total of 2,368 colors and a resolution of 9600 x 2400 dpi1 the pictures come out as good as most of the pictures I made from film in the darkroom. It is capable of printing wallet size up to 8.5”x11”. This printer will do RAW photos with the Easy-PhotoPrint EX free download from Canon.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, durable, High Quality Output, photographs

I would not recommend this particular MX 860 to anyone as it burns through ink like there is no tomorrow and has already burned through its printer head after only a couple thousand copies, at the most. I have been very disappointed. It is easy plug and use, but that does not outweigh the negatives for me.
Pros: High Quality Output, fast print speed, easy to use
Cons: unreliable, Flimsy Construction
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
