I just installed my new MX860. I had a little trouble setting up the printer with my network (I'm a computer programmer), but it worked out. The USB flash drive copy worked best.
I just saw a review somewhere that someone was disappointed that the printer could not be set up both wirelessly and through a direct usb cable. This is simply not true! My desktop connects through USB and my laptop through wireless network.
Pros: durable, easy to use, reliable, Sharp Tones & Colors, i like the substantial weight
Cons: Difficult Setup, some of the plastic components seem flimsy.

Another happy customer

I recently purchased an all in one printer from another manufacturer but returned it due to technical problems. Based on the positive reviews I purchased this printer. I told the advice of other reviewers and contacted Canon live tech support for assistance on setting up the network and downloading the proper drivers and software from the website. John from Tech Support and I worked through the full process on both my PC with Windows 7 and my Mac. Completely super experience. The technician was extremely helpful and patient with my "non-techie" questions. The printer works exactly as It should with both the Mac and PC - prints fine, scans perfectly and copies as expected. Another feature I really like is that the printer is quiet. I don't really see any cons at this point. The printer is fairly heavy but I'm not walking around with it. The speed is not extremely fast but pretty comparable if not good for an inkjet. Excellent printer with super tech support at Canon!
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, Sharp Tones & Colors, easy to use

an okay machine

I would say that, compared with previous machines, such as the PIXMA scanner/photcopier/printer, which I bought several months ago, the really main difference is that, unlike the older machines, were the user just enters commands, on the computer screen, and the unit worked, "automatically", with the MX860, after the commands are entered on-screen, the commands must be repeated, on the unit, itself. Just telling the computer to do a task, does not start the task. New purchasers should know that the cute "cartoons" which show how to set up the ink cartridges, is not half detailed enough. It only shows to open the cover, and put the cartridges into the handler. What is not explained is that, between the opening, of the cover, and the placement of the ink tanks, is the fact that, after the cover is open, there is a carriage/holder, which is grey on my machine. This holder must be lifted, then the ink tanks will sit, properly, in the carriage. After inserting the tanks, this holder/bar must be put back in place, before closing the machine up. Actually, the machine is not hard to use, once it has been operated, but the writer, of the manuals, should put much more detail into their writing, and not just assume that users will understand pictures. Oh, and one last thing. If a user wants to verify that ALL of the ink tanks are properly inserted, dont bother with the "head alignment" feature. If one views the directions, close enough, the test sheet only prints in blue, and black. To test the other tanks, the user must print another picture, or document. This is the only way to know, for sure, if the ink is correct. I hope this helps other users, and new purchasers.
Pros: fast print speed
Cons: Difficult Setup, difficult set-up for first time users. much more

Excellence @ Home office

This is a simply amazing machine. When we purchased it we were looking for a simple all-in-one machine but we never read all of the details, we just liked the price and the Canon name. Once we installed it at our home office it replaced four other machines, the fax, higher speed printer, older printer for a Mac, and my daughters printer. With the wireless (set up was so slick we weren't sure it would work) we use the printer from two PC laptops, two Mac laptops and a Mac desktop and our workhorse PC desktop. Quality is amazing as is the speed. On-machine prompts (also sent over wireless) let us know if there's need for paper or ink. Special paper feed is easy and disappears when not in use. Only one minor improvement to be made is to add a larger capacity paper tray, but for most of our needs at home the existing capacity is adequate.
Pros: Compact Design, Easy Setup, easy to use, fast print speed, Low Ink Consumption, reliable, Sharp Tones & Colors, pc & mac dual use

I have my entire home wirelessly networked. Having this machine makes scanning, printing and faxing a snap from my computers anywhere in home. NO WIRES. AWESOME! Seamless install onto your MAC.

Great replacement for my i860!

My trusty Canon i860 finally died and I replaced it with the MX860. The setup took a bit of time but the "Getting Started" booklet provided step-by-step instructions.
I have an iMac which is connected to an Airport Extreme router (which, in turn, connects to a an internet service router). My wife has a MacBook which functions wirelessly through the AP Extreme and she backs up to a USB HD connected to the Extreme.
My iMac is directly connected to the Extreme with an ethernet cable. I hooked up the MX860 to my iMac with a USB cable and installed the software. By going to Mac System Preferences and turning Printer Sharing on (Sharing Folder) and then adding the MX860 to the computer's printers (Print & Fax Folder) and checking "Share this printer" while the MX860 is selected in the printer window, the printer can be accessed wirelessly on my wife's MacBook (I also installed the MX860 software on the MacBook but I'm not sure if that was necessary).
I replaced the i860 printer and a Canoscan LIDE 35 scanner with the MX860 and gained desk space by doing so. Very pleased with the printer so far.

This is my first color printer which was purchased after a long and thorough research of various products in the market. And, after reviewing product specs and all of the reviews, the Canon Pixma had more to offer than any other printer in the market at the time. I purchased the Pixma printer because I was interested in its high definition printing as well as high def scanning. Add to this the individual color refills and all of the other features it has to offer, it was an unbeatable deal with an unbeatable price. I am very very pleased with my purchase.
I've been so intrigued with its printing capabilities that I have been unable to focus on scanning, however, the scanning feature is exceptional. Although it has a fax and is wireless, I do not plan on using these features but glad they're available when needed.not only printing qualities but also scanning.
The initial set up was a little intimidating because it came in a large box and it was very heavy. After taking it out of the box, I waited a day before setting it up. It was rather easy and after it was plugged in and the software downloaded, I used the Canon Solution software to start printing photos which are all exceptional. The photo paper tray is very easy to operate and adjusts to the paper size. I have printed 4x6, 5x7, and 8x10 all of which are high quality color prints with no flaws -- just perfect.
I could go on and on about this wonderlful printer, but will end by saying that I would highly recommend this printer to any one seriously interested in quality color photos and qualify photo scanning.
Pros: Compact Design, Lightweight/Portable, durable, Easy Setup, easy to use, fast print speed, Low Ink Consumption, reliable, Sharp Tones & Colors, easy to understand, unbeatable color photos
