Best printer purchase thus far

A great overall printer. Probably the best I've ever bought. Wireless worked seamlessly over my network and the print quality is fantastic. The auto-document feeder worked perfectly, to my great surprise. Printing from multiple computers on my network worked fine - though could use a little faster print speed - still better than color printers i've had before. Have had it for >6 months now with no problems whatsoever.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, Sharp Tones & Colors, easy to use
Cons: Heavy/Bulky

Disappointing

I like to print cards for friends and family. So far I've found this printer to be loud, and slow to start and finish something simple. Also, printing an envelope has been an experience similar to brain surgery. My patience died and now I just handwrite the envelope. Sizing is wierd for a simple envelope and instructions never helped. Maybe I overshot my ability with this printer. It's my 5th printer, but next time I will stick to cheap and disposable. It's probably not their fault that Win7 is not a friend to this printer either.
Pros: Sharp Tones & Colors
Cons: Difficult to use, Slow Print Speed, Large Footprint, Heavy/Bulky, Difficult Setup, unreliable, High Ink Consumption

Great printer value

Overall, an excellent printer for the money. Print quality and speed are very good. Have been able to use 3rd party ink cartridges to keep costs down since you may go through the inks fairly quick. From a style standpoint, the printer seems to have a bigger footprinter than those offered by other manufactureres. Good features, especially the ink level monitor. Menu easy to use and inntuitive.
Pros: menus are easy to use and intuitive, convenient front loading paper tray, ink level monitor
Cons: ink usage seems quick, seems to be bulkier than other manufacturers

My previous printer was a Canon MP780, and I lived the features and used it for 5 years....so when I wanted a new printer, the MX860 was the obvious choice. I have learned that Canon means quality and value, and the one time I needed service on my old printer (new print head) it cost me nothing and I had it by overnight delivery!
I agree Canon needs to make the color ink tanks larger to provide a longer cartridge life.
Pros: print quality, photo quality, features

So Easy To Use

This product is very easy to use and setup The menus on the screen are simple to navigate The wireless setup was fast and required very little user input The 5 ink tank system produces outstanding quality photo prints I've used it as a stand alone printer fax and scanner and with the software on my computer with ease I recomend this product to novice and expert users
Pros: very quiet, fast print speed
Cons: cant think of any

Beware: Grinding Noise

I have usually been impressed with my Canon multifunction printers in the past but the MX860 has turned out to be a disappointment. I have had this printer in my office for about 1 and half years. The print speed is annoyingly slow and the actual text quality has been less (slanted letters) than with previous Canon products. About one month ago, the printer started to make an annoying grinding noise after each print job. (First prints out after much delay, then silence, and then a minute or two later, a loud grinding noise. My warranty is up so I can't find a solution to fix it and instead have to buy a new multifunction. My other Canon multifunctions have lasted much longer than this. I regretfully cannot recommend anyone buy this particular model.
Pros: Compact Design, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Slow Print Speed, unreliable, grinding noise after printing

FRUSTRATING INK USAGE

Please heed the reviews of others that state you can't print a document in black if any of the other color cartridges are empty. Such a horrible, expensive and frustrating design flaw. Investing in a similar unit but from a different manufacturer.
Cons: Slow Print Speed, Heavy/Bulky, High Ink Consumption, unreliable, Flimsy Construction, 1 empty ink cartridge out of 5 = no printing, expensive ink

big mistake!

This computer is very complicated to use. The wireless feature is difficult to set up. Print quality is OK. You never know what size of font will be printed and very, very difficult to change and sometimes it won't let the size font be changed.
Cons: Difficult to use, Large Footprint, Difficult Setup
