Biggest thing I think made this easy to set up was downloading all the current updates. This solved my wireless connection problem. The manual wasn't to clear as to how to enter encription code, but the software made it easy. Scans quickly but printing was slower than expected. Haven't had it long enough to test ink consumption or durability. Overall I am very happy so far......
Cons: Slow Print Speed, needs a better manual

BY FAR, THE BEST VALUE...

This is the 5th printer that I have used in 11yrs, but only the 3rd "All In One". I've had 2 other makes until 3yr ago, when I bought a Canon MP500 & I've never looked back since.....but now I needed a Fax & that was one function that the 500 did not have. ..that's when I found the MX860. What a joy....Fast, quiet, EXTREMELY economical...I can't say enough. I never thought that I'd use duplex printing or wireless...WRONG. This machine is a real dream. If you want a GREAT All In One unit that also prints EXCELLENT photos, this is it...PERIOD.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, Low Ink Consumption, Sharp Tones & Colors, easy to use, incredible value
Cons: Large Footprint

so easy to use

I am what is referred to as a computer dummy. I bought the MX860 to eliminate the clutter on my counter. I found that I could fax, copy, and print on the very first try. The directions were easy to follow. I may still have problems using my computer, but anything I need to do with the MX860 ( copy, print, fax, scan, etc.) I know I can easily get done. This has been the best buy I have made.
Pros: Easy Setup, Sharp Tones & Colors, easy to use

Great Printer, and Software is Intuitive

While I have only had this printer for about a week, it was easy to set up, and the software is simply great. I have it hooked up to two macs, wirelessly, and one of the macs is running windows as well. I have had no problems with any of the computers using this printer over the wireless network. This is the first Canon printer I have owned, but if it performs over time as it has for the last week, I will be hooked on Canon. As an aside, Canon's support over the phone is very good as well. I had a couple of small problems setting up the system, and they knew the answers to my problems immediately. Thanks Canon, for a great product.
Pros: Easy Setup, Sharp Tones & Colors, easy to use
Cons: Large Footprint, Heavy/Bulky

Great multifunctional printer

This is my first purchase of a Cannon printer. So far I am very happy with it. The printer is fast and quiet. Based on other reviews I expected to run into some set up problems but apparently I avoided them by carefully following the set up instructions in the manual. It would have been nice if the commands for getting the printer to do what I wanted it to do were more intutive. Never-the-less I really like this printer and it is a vast improvement over the previous mulitfunctional printer that I owned.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, fast print speed, easy to use
Cons: Large Footprint

Great Printer, Scanner, Copier, Fax!
on May 24, 2010

I LOVE this All-In-One, Printer, Scanner, Copier, Fax! I always research the item I am looking to purchase. I have owned other brands of printers I hated and 2 previous Canon printers. I loved my previous Canon printers too so, I wanted to stay with what I new I could rely on. The 2 previous Canons were still working great too, but I wanted to upgrade for more features! For me, the most important features I needed in a new printer were the ALL-In One features and the type of ink cartridges and their cost. To me, Canon's individual ink tanks and their cost far surpasses those of any other brand of printer or All-In-One I & those my family & friends have owned. The setup was quick and easy. I'm still getting use to the on screen menus but it is just a matter of using them. The 2 paper feeds are features I had in my last Canon printer and wanted that again. I can fill the bottom tray and the paper stays clean and dust free until needed. With the back tray I don't have to remove the paper in the bottom tray and I can keep the back tray closed and dust free too, until I need to print something else like photos, labels etc. I just open the back tray insert a sheet or more, print and close. Great features and print quality!
