Solid so far

Overall pretty smooth set up, had a little trouble with the ink cartriges as they weren't being read right, I just went and re set the printer head, and then worked fine. The paper tray slides across work space and have had some printing troubles with the paper jamming but, prints came out clear. Scanning quality is excellent and the auto feeder is great.
Pros: durable, Easy Setup, Sharp Tones & Colors
Cons: Heavy/Bulky

A good purchase

I bought this Canon printer MX860 to replace our 7 + yrs old canon printer. I like ALL the features. However, the manuals are NOT user friendly. And that's why I gave the overall ratings of 4 starts. It took me about 2-3 hours to set this up as a network printer. The manual is hard to understand.
Pros: durable, fast print speed, reliable, Sharp Tones & Colors
Cons: Heavy/Bulky, Difficult Setup

Confusing set up. Wireless not easy, I often have to use the USB cord. Fax reception noise always interrupts incoming calls. Have tried everything to make it go away, but it kicks in as soon as I pick up the phone. Web help continually times me out as I researched their FAQs for help. Makes me go back to the beginning and start over. Why have FAQs if you are kicked out while using them??
Generally, a disappointment. Slow to print and scan. Very large on my desk. Spend an extra $80 and get a different one.

Great Printer

This printer is used in an aviation office on a network and it is so easy to use and always reliable. The ink isn't overly expensive and the printer didn't come with tons of bloat-ware that I didn't need, in fact, the solutions menu is great.
Overall this has been the best printer we've had for years. We go through these multi-function printers like crazy and this has been the best for wear and tear. Still works like new after almost a year.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, durable, Low Ink Consumption, Sharp Tones & Colors, fast print speed, easy to use
Cons: Heavy/Bulky

We came back to Canon

We have had several inkjets with individual ink tanks and always found Canon to be the most economical and have the most ink in them. We were disapointed our last printer due to high cost of constantly replacing their ink tanks.
We have been using the MX-860 for 2 months now and it is the best all in one we have ever used
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, durable, Low Ink Consumption, Sharp Tones & Colors, fast print speed, easy to use, canon has the best cartridge life
Cons: Large Footprint

Super everything

This is my third Canon printer, and I have never been disappointed. While some folks think it has a rather large footprint, it fits just nicely in the space previously occupied by it's smaller brother (MP190...lol). It networked so easy once I read the directions (lol). A very quick printer in both B&W and Color copies, and it prints photos with vivid colors and speed. You can't go wrong!
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, Sharp Tones & Colors, fast print speed, easy to use

Very Good All In One Printer

Integrates well with Mac OS. Easy wireless setup, and all functions work well. over wireless. Love the duplexer! Only drawback for Mac users is the inability to fax directly from an application. If Canon would only provide this software for Mac users (it does provide this for PC users), the printer would be perfect! It does have a rather large footprint, but it is very well built, and so far has performed flawlessly. Good value for the price. Ink consumption and print speed are not stellar, but well in line with other all-in-one ink jet printers in this price range. Print speed is actually better than most. I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, durable, easy to use
Cons: Large Footprint, can not fax directly from an application with mac

Network setup and performance is HORRIFYING
on May 31, 2011
Posted by: rtn
First let me say that the printing, copying and scanning quality and performance of the printer is excellent. However, I purchased this printer to use as a home network printer, as it was advertised as such. I am experienced with network setup and network printer setup, and the setup process for this printer is nothing short of horrible. Furthermore, if you ever need to change any network settings, or change or add any PCs to your network, you should expect having to go back through the process entirely again, with several weird driver bugs along the way (for example, "Installation Failed" messages that give absolutely no indication as to WHY the installation failed, only recommending to go through the entire process again...and then getting the same message). This is as far from "plug and play" as anything I can imagine. Buyer beware.
Cons: Difficult to use, Difficult Setup
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
